Flea To Induct Metallica To HOF

2009-03-23 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 42 Comments
Fuse, the official TV partner of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, has confirmed that Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea will induct Metallica to the exclusive club at the annual ceremony in Cleveland, Ohio next month.

Inductees are generally "given away" by a musician or musicians that their music has had a profound effect upon, and to that measure the other inductees will be similarly honoured. Run DMC will be inducted by Eminem; Jeff Beck will be inducted by contemporary Jimmy Page; Bobby Womack will be inducted by the Faces/Rolling Stones' Ron Wood; while Little Anthony and the Imperials will be inducted by Smokey Robinson.

The induction ceremony is due to take place on April 4 and will be broadcast on Fuse from 9pm ET.

Very unexpected. I was certain it was going to be Lemmy (or hoping it was). But hey Flea is the man, just an odd choice to induct them.

They're inducted 20 years after they were most relevant.

Flea is an odd choice. I love the guy, but I'm sure they could've got someone more... appropriate? unless Flea's got even St. Anger on vinyl

Too bad the rock and roll hall of fame is meaningless.

I don't pay attention to the rules of the rock and roll hall of fame, since as NebSnurb put it,
it's meaningless. Still Metallica are deserving. This Message Edited On 03.23.09

Good article Spat. Very deserving band indeed and they are certainly still relevant IMO.

I'm sort of glad they've been inducted now rather than at the height of their career. You get to really appreciate them as a living breathing musical influence instead of mistaking them as a trend or whatever...You get to see that they lasted

dont really like metal at all, but their first three albums were badass, and even ...and justice for all was alright. i just think they kinda started the downward spiral once cliff died. This Message Edited On 03.23.09

I love how people say that stuff like this is meaningless, as if they wouldn't care at all if they had this honor.

Lemmy would have been such a better choice, but this is well deserved, and really shouldn't be all that surprising to their haters, regardless of said hatred

Having said that in opinion form, i take it as no other way than admission towards your feelings for other males.

every time i see bullittman post, he does nothing but go up in arms to defend metal.

and im a homosexual because i stated an opinion? thats what i got outta of bullittman's comment.

theyre more experimental, more consistent, and are back-boned by a more impressive drummer. i dont dislike metallica, but im not gonna go to the means of hurling irrelevant insults to defend them. This Message Edited On 03.23.09

I never liked these guys... not even their first 3 albums.

Always saw them as an overrated band, and probably always will. Cliff was a hell of a bassist tho.

Hey i like all kinds of music, i take back the homosexual thing, it was dumb i know. I just wish people would start judging bands on their own opinions and not agreeing with everyone else just to sound like they know what they are talking about. And back to the actual story, I guess Flea is ok to do it. I could think of a few others more suitable though.

I wonder if Newstead will be there? Does Trujillo deserve any part of this? If so they better have Mustaine up there as well. How about Cliff posthumously? Is it Metallica as a whole or the individuals who made up Metallica that get inducted? This frivolity is making my head hurt.

P.S. Slayer more deserving

imho, completely undeserved.
Unless their criteria means being no-talent, money-obsessed, tightwad pricks. Then yeah, they definitely deserve it.
I hate Metallica. Haha.

Edit - And before Bullitt jumps my ass for possibly jumping on a bandwagon, I've been hating Metallica since before hating Metallica was cool. So nuhfudhafsdf to you, good sir! This Message Edited On 03.24.09

Hey i'm not going to jump your ass. I dont see how you can say they have no talent though. And if you arent jumping on a bandwagon (which you may very well not be) you are one of the few.It is possible to hate music most other like though...take cynic for example, i think they are terrible and everyone loves them. This Message Edited On 03.24.09

there are so many good bands that should be in the hall of fame but their sales records don't back them up and never will. sadly it's the commercial music hall of fame.
maybe one day there will be an indie hall of fame of some sort that will see underground bands or bands that have a strong following but fewer sales get the recognition they deserve.

So many stupid people around here. In case you didn't know, Metallica did not vote themselves into the Hall of Fame. Criticize the board that voted them in instead of criticizing them for no reason, other than the fact that OTHER PEOPLE think they are good enough to be inducted.

The worst thing is, that I would venture to say that there are groups that some of you think should be inducted instead of them, that were influenced by them and would never sound the way they do without metallica.

Hell Metallica said in an interview that in their opinions Rush, Motorhead, and other acts were just as deserving, if not more to be inducted.

I find it funny that Metallica, one of the most influencial and successful bands of all time is catching more crap from you idiots than a f*cking rap group that's getting inducted into the ROCK AND ROLL Hall of Fame.

Idiots
