Samael Releasing Metal Album 2008-12-02 by Trey STAFF | 7 Comments | In an interview with Beyond the Dark Horizon vocalist, Vorph, stated the following about their upcoming album titled Above:
We feel now it is the right time to remember the people where we come from, and that's exactly what "Above" will do. It is like an enhanced version of our three or four first albums, maybe the missing link between "Ceremony of Opposites" and "Passage". With the "Era One" project we've tried to work on different influences, [and] with "Above" we stripped everything down. It is a metal album through and through... "Above" is a little bit of a tribute to our early years as a band and to our first influences. If you listen to our two last albums, you can tell our roots go beyond that but "Above" is a good résumé of what pushed us to start playing music in the first place.
For those that are only aware of Samael as an industrial band, there was a time when they were a very respected black metal band that played mid-paced black metal with a tremendous sense of rhythm.

I have Solar Soul and Reign of Light which were pretty decent, haven't heard anything from their so called Black Metal days.Might check teh new album out, once it leaks.

If you liked those two albums you should check out "Passage". That is the album that kind of bridges the gap between their old stuff and their new stuff and is generally considered their best.
