Bon Jovi Sued For $400bn

2008-10-16 by wakeupdead | 46 Comments
Songwriter Bart Steele has sued Bon Jovi for $400 billion, alleging plagiarism on the song 'I Love This Town' from Bon Jovi's album Lost Highway.

Steele claims that 'I Love This Town' is sufficiently similar to Steele's own '(Man I Really) Love This Town,' written 3 years before Bon Jovi's recording, to warrant the massive cash payout.

"I know I'm the little fish and they're the big fish, but they fucked with the wrong piranha," Steele told the Boston Herald.

That isn't a typo by the way. $400,000,000,000.

OUCH! $400 BILLION?
That's ridiculous... It's only a song! I don't need to have heard both to know that this is far too much for a case of plagiarism.

As much as I dislike Bon Jovi's music, 400 billion is a bit ridiculous.

Seriously, the music industry (and law generally, but music in particular) has gone completely over the top. There is no reason for this suing, if someone ripped me off and I was a relatively successful artist, I wouldn't sue them for $400 billion! I might talk to them and say 'Hey look, this isn't fair...' but even given the world's biggest display of disrespect, I wouldn't sue for that.
Music ain't just about money, it's been said before but that doesn't make it any less relevant. Chances are that the 2 songs probably aren't even all that similar.

$400 billion? haha, that's crazy.

Speaking of this song, anyone else hate it with a passion? I cringe when I hear it on TBS during the MLB playoffs. Maybe it just reminds me of how much the Cubs let me down, but I still hate it.
