Elbow Win Mercury Prize 2008-09-09 by zenblade | 3 Comments | Manchester band Elbow have won Britain's biggest music award, the 2008 Mercury Prize, beating out competition from the likes of Radiohead, British Sea Power, Laura Marling, Adele, Neon Neon, and Burial.
Lead singer Guy Garvey said the band were elated, and accepted the award by saying "Thank you very much. I'd like to thank all the players we've been with since day one, including Phil Chadwick, our manager."
Although achieving critical acclaim with previous albums, Elbow's previous albums have so far failed to crack the mainstream audience, and winning the Mercury Prize should certainly help with that, as previous winners would attest to.

There is a song on the album that they did on Live At Abbey Road that is soooooooooooooooooooooo awesome.
Good on them, though I thought Burial or LSPs would win tbh.
