FBI Arrests Guns N Roses Leaker

2008-08-27 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 17 Comments
A man accused of leaking nine demo tracks from the mythical Guns N' Roses album Chinese Democracy has been arrested and charged with violating federal copyright laws.

Authorities reportedly showed up at the home of Kevin Cogill a.k.a. skwerl, 27, in Los Angeles at dawn this morning and took him into custody, where he is scheduled to appear at a District Court later today.

Cogill was questioned by an FBI agent in June over his hand in the distribution of illegally-obtained audio files, whereupon an affidavit states that he admitted to posting the songs to the Antiquiet.com blog.

According to Digital Media Wire, Cogill faces up to $250,000 in Federal fines and up to three years in prison if convicted, notwithstanding any civil action Guns N' Roses and Geffen Records may wish to take on top of that.

Mr. Cogill made a plea on the blog yesterday for legal counsel, and his fellow bloggers have set up a paypal account to help pay his fees.

trust GnRs to try to rip someone off.
Im a artist, and i fully surport downmlaoding. if it means people are coming to the shows and having a great time, and bring their mates to shows.
Its worth the extra distruption of free downmloading, or half the people wounldt even bother with half the bands out there

If the record ever does get released, everyone should boycot buying it, just to teach all parties involved a lesson for their stupidity, greed and arrogance.
