I actually don't know what to say to this really. A bit far fetched.

What else are you supposed to listen to at Teen-Procreation Camp http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-471324/Sex-motherland-Russian-youths-encouraged-procreate-camp.html
|
| |
Ridiculous. But I can see why people don't like them.
|
| |
This is stupid....how can you ban a particular music Genre .?
|
| |
Well they did...
|
| |
They are the russians, they do what they want
|
| |
Fucking Soviets.
|
| |
The sheer stupidity of modern politicians astonishes me everyday anew...
|
| |
Lol.
|
| |
This is ridiculous. Instead of, you know, providing more counselling and help options, they ban a whole genre of music. Which, of course, is obvious stereotyping. This is 2008. I thought we moved past this type of stuff. Guess not. You know this would never fall through in America, or even most European countries.
|
| |
guess the Russians haven't
|
| |
Ha! That's the other side of ridiculous! How the hell are they going to go about enforcing that?
|
| |
next they'll be bringing in tariffs on eyeliner.
|
| |
whats wrong with people these days
|
| |
"Ha! That's the other side of ridiculous! How the hell are they going to go about enforcing that?"
Exactly. Not like they can do much about something like that, since Russia is no longer led by a dictator. And if you can be arrested, then that seems to go against human rights. This Message Edited On 07.23.08

To Write Love On Her Arms should set up a rally there. That would be interesting.
|
| |
Yea d00d they should ban rap next cus all rap is about shooting people and raping white wimmenz and as such threatens the stability of their democracy
|
| |
IN SOVIET RUSSIA, EMO BANS YOU
|
| |
makes me proud to be russian : )
|
| |
and the doomsday clock moves one more minute closer to midnight
First thing that popped in my head when I read this.
|
| |
IN SOVIET RUSSIA, EMO BANS YOU I was waiting for one of those to turn up, well done.
|
| |
I guess that is just another reason for epically hot Russian women to move to America.
|
| |
that does it, i'm fucking moving to russia
|
| |
roflmao. sooo ridiculous.
|
| |
It's not like we're gonna lose any good artists anyways...
|
| |
woo fascism!
|

looks like i took russian history one year too early
fuck

As much as I dislike "emo" and most of the typical "goth" genres, Russia is not just in the wrong here but it is also probably banning most music altogether. I'm sorry but I listen to a lot of music which could be considered emo and goth to others. Who in the Russian government is going to have the taste and the balls to define genres which have never been stable.
Emo has only just reared its head in the middle of the new millennium and it started off as a completely different musical style. Ask for goth, what is goth?. Music from Dead Can Dance to Nine Inch Nails could be considered goth. Heck I could order a rare stake in restaurant and ask for a romantic candle lit dinner and be considered "goth". This just isn't an attack on music, it is an attack on self expression which in my opinion will ironically cause more cases of depression and suicides than with said music been allowed into circulation.
Of course we are forgetting the main issue here. People would not be reading and listening into emo and goth music in the first place if they were happy with their lives. Parents and the government can't face the fact that it is the conditions that they pass down or create which cause these social dilemmas. Hence emo is now the Jew of music, taking the blame for generations upon generations of poor management in households and parliament. Russia has strengthened my commitment in being a misanthrope.

GO COMMIES GOOOOOOO
Of course we are forgetting the main issue here. But I agree with everything else. As much as I don't like emo music, I think banning any musical genre is a pretty facist move. Don't they have freedom of speech and expression in Russia?
|
| |
i thought this was a joke at first, that's how much of a joke this IS
|
| |
Hold on a second... Nazi punk rock is legal and this isn't? What the hell is going on here?
|
| |
Politics is going on here!
|
| |
Good point
|
| |
I made a good talking point with mah news. Well technically Kerrang did.
I don't think EVERYONE who listens to emo does so because they ar eunhappy with their lives etc, although a large percentage of lsiteners are in that situation.
|
| |
only in russia, in any other civilized country that would be shot down so fast... do they not have freedom of speech?
|
| |
Pretty damn funny article. I read a similar one in Spin about emo kids getting beat up all throughout mexico. Actually making emo illegal is a whole nother story though.
|
| |
F***ING Politics! so absurd its funny.
They should ban Rick Astley, that is where true evil lies...
|
| |
lol Russia
|
| |
Well I've always said Russia has the right idea!
But seriously, this is progress they banned The Beatles in the 60's...at least their not banning Hannah Montana.
|
| |
now we can bring which-genre-is-this battles into government, fuck yes
|
| |
5 bucks their gonna ban shit like MCR and Children of Bodom instead of real emo and goth
|
| |
^Given how the real Emo music is not the one that the "teens that hurt themselves or commit suicide" follow, I'm pretty sure thats what they are planning.
|
| |
and it was me! proud parade coming through.
|
| |
lol Russia. The emo bullcrap is so dumb. It's an overused word and why not just dress comfortably. Shorts, t-shirt and boxers. occasionally flip flops but otherwise yeah that's about all I ever put on.
Hooray for a gray society of non-personality (communism)
pfft
|
| |
Funny but in a sad way...shows how stupid people really are in high places in government.
If they band stupidity, that whole government better hide.
|
| |

You've strengthened my misanthropy good sir. You say people would not listen to emo music if they were happy. You are:
WRONG.
You say emo has been getting blamed for generations. You are:
WRONG. Emo has been around since mid 80s, that's it, not the generation time line that the "jews" have built up.
Poor management in households? Are my parents failures because I like emo music?
|
| |
yes, absolutely
|
| |
The Russian government is in the process of drafting a law to make emo and goth music illegal.
This is a fantastic piece of news. Wish Canada would do this as well hahaha.
Fucking U.S.S..........I mean Russia!
|
| |
IN RUSSIA, EMO WEARS YOU
|
| |
Great, now we just need all emos to be burned alive and we can move on like they never existed
|
| |
This is what happens when there is no proof limit on Vodka.
|
| |
I wish my name was Igor Ponkin. He must get mad tang.
|
| |
how can they ban the bauhaus? what will become of russia's college radio stations?
|
| |
Exactly. Not like they can do much about something like that, since Russia is no longer led by a dictator. And if you can be arrested, then that seems to go against human rights.
Try telling this to all the journalists and people who's families "disappeared" because they said or wrote something against the regime of Putin. Putin is the dictator in Russia, he just knows damn well how to cover that under the banner of democracy...
Hold on a second... Nazi punk rock is legal and this isn't? What the hell is going on here?
Russia has one of the biggest Nazi movements on this planet... didn't you know? The term "Nazi-Communist pig" get's a whole new meaning in the context.
|
| |
This brings the "what is real emo" discussion to a new dimension.
|
| |
But they aren't banning metal :P
and you know why?
Because Medvedev (the pres) likes all the deep purple/black sabbath/led zep shit

Actualy to anyone who actualy reads english, I mentioned "listening and reading into" you know as in relating to (duuur)
And I also mentioned that emo began as a completely different musical style, you sir have just strengthened why I think your a douche
|
| |
this is ridiculous...
im really interesting in the range of bands that they will put into these categories.
Will they ban Fugazi? i sure as hell hope not.
However, they could just download their music off the Interweb... =P
|
| |
i don't really see anything wrong with this tbh i would do the same thing if i ruled a country since its not calling for the ban of the music itself but just the clothes, which i think is a great step towards teenagers finally learning how to dress themselves which you think would be such a simple concept but its really not apparently
|
| |

If Russia tried banning Hannah Montana, she would metamorphose into the 30 story tall snake demon from hell that she is and consume all of the motherland with her pure evil. This Message Edited On 07.24.08

YEAH THIS WILL HELP ALOT DUMBASS.

9 times out of 10, I cut myself listening to good ol' Shostakovich...The other ten percent I reserve for t.A.T.u...
|
| |
I prefer Tchaikovsky
|
| |
This is stupid. Thank god this can't happen in America. The emo stereotypes are stupid. I listen to "emo" music but don't dress emo and I sure as hell don't cut myself or want to end my life. What exactly makes a band "emo" anyways? The Russians are trying to put a name on something that is so diverse that they will never be able to pull this off.
This is what happens when there is no proof limit on Vodka.
Lulz.
But seriously, as funny as this is, it's equally retarded. In any given population there will always be certain groups that act in certain ways... legislation does not change fundamental human behavior... In this case, I mean the kids who are socialized in such a way that they find themselves wanting to listen to depressing music and possibly hurt themselves. Even if the law doesn't turn out to be a total failure they'll find some other way of "expressing themselves." You never know, this could quite possibly be the catalyst for an entirely new subculture that will sweep the world...
WHY SO SERIOUS??
|
| |
Cue Rammstein's "Moskow"!!!
|
| |
Meecrob.
|
| |
Wait...
In Soviet Russia, Emo bans you!
|
| |
Cameron, just... why? This is nearly 10 years old.
