Timbaland on Jay-Z, Cornell

2008-07-16 by Iai EMERITUS | 13 Comments
In an interview with MTV and VH1 on Monday, Timbaland spoke about several new projects of his, and made some statements that will no doubt raise some eyebrows.

First, Jay-Z. "He wants me to do the whole thing this time around. I'mma make it a classic too. You better believe it. It'll be a monster!" claimed Timba, with a modesty most unbecoming of him. "I always say this: You get a first single from me, I'mma get you up to gold. And it's hard to get you up to gold in this day and age." Still, the prospect of an entire album made by Jay and Timba will no doubt excite many, and make others cynical - Timbaland's contributions to Jay-Z albums have previously resulted in such underwhelming tracks as "Paper Chase", "Big Pimpin", and "Snoopy Track", although he is also responsible for "Dirt Off Your Shoulder".

Oh wait, there's more! "Some of the songs gonna sound like M.I.A. would rap on some of the beats. You gonna be like, 'Whoa!' But it's Jay on 'em. That means it reaches everywhere. I'mma have songs with bagpipes. The music is gonna be so worldwide, he'll be able to tour the rest of his life, maybe, off just this one album. The Jay-Z album is gonna be phenomenal. You know why? We don't care. We're doing great music just to do it. We doing it for our fans who love us to say we ain't quit. I'm doing it 'cause that's my homeboy." Quite.

Secondly, Justin Timberlake. Tim confirmed that no new Timberlake projects are in the works, because 'Justin's more into films right now'. However, he still expects to produce the follow-up to FutureSex/LoveSounds if and when it happens.

Thirdly, and most unexpectedly, Chris Cornell. Timbaland and Cornell have been working together on an album that is now complete, and both Tim and JT feel it's his best work yet. Empty hype? We'll see.

Timbaland was recently married to his long-term girlfriend, music executive Monique Idlett. They had a formal ceremony in Aruba on June 22nd.

the guy's a good producer, and jay-z has a helluva lot of talent, especially for a mainstream rapper. i can't see how the result would be bad

Cornell's album is going to be even worse than the last Audioslave album, just a Revelation.

but Timbalands and arrogant fuck, and he's so full of himself. I have no hope for Chris Cornell, his soul died away in 1997

Seems like if you cant get your owns hits these days you should just run to Timbaland with your tail between your legs and let him compose your music and call it your own. (i.e. One Republic)
