I don't listen to these guys nearly as much as I used to, but I'll still check out their new album when it comes.
|
| |
Wow, that must be some kind of record for Tool to announce a new album so soon after their last.
|
| |
Nice.
This is very exciting.

All true and I can only hope that this one wont be a rushed out mediocre followup
|
| |
It'll take at least another year or two before it's out I'd imagine.
|
| |
I thought they were done? Cool stuff.

Best news of the day
|

*Lil John voice* Yeah!
|

It's almost been 2 years since 10000 days was released (ALMOST), so I bet this record is out by summer next year.
|
| |
Huh. Cool news. I don't listen to Tool as much anymore, but I'd probably pick up a new album.

News for December 21, 2012.
The pretentious rock band Tool release their 5th studio album. 2012 fanatics and Tool fans alike feel as if this is the great historic occurance that was preditcted to happen. The album has been described as more or less the same mediocracy as "10,000 days" and trying a little too hard to sound like Meshuggah's 2011 release "enligtehnZ oF teh brainZ"
Other releases this day include Kanye West's album " A shit load bigger than Jesus" and 50 cent's "Bullet Proof: The 2012 Messiah"

I came.
|
| |
i can't wait. they started writting/recording pretty quick too, but the album still came out 5years later lol...i would assume this'll be the same
|
| |
10000 Days was a huge dissapointment. Hopefully this one will be better.
|
| |
This isnt their 5th album dufus...
|
| |
10,000 days has grown on me. jambi is pretty cool now, but its no doubt that they reused a lot of their older material on the album. hopefully they put out another masterpiece. i'll cream my panties!
|
| |
Considering that this is Tool and it'll probably take them 2 years to get everything perfect I probably shouldn't be excited, but I can't help it.
|
| |
Originally I'd say it'd be out 2011, but that's too close to 2012 so they can release it a year later very pretentiously and name it something about Mayan calendars predicting Jupiter slamming into Argentina. Or some shit.

First NIN not taking a 5 year detour and now Tool. Sounds good to hear that a new album is coming, but not expecting it anytime soon.
|
| |
I used to be a really big Tool fan, but, man, I just can't bring myself to register any excitement for this. I fully expect more of the same.

10,000 days is actually a very strong record in my opinion. But then again I am easily amused. As far as being pretentious, I am amused by the accusation, but then again I think it is unfair and irrelevant. Maybe you see them as pretentious cause maynard put the entire human race in its place with the song "hooker with a penis." Or maybe you think their pretentious cause of the things that people who love tool, like me, seem to worship them as divine. They are definitely something special, one of the most influential bands of our era. Go look on craigslist and search bands. I gaurantee you will find multiple posts about people trying to start bands and they will list tool as an influence. Not saying that makes them great, but it certainly implies that they are influential. Maybe you think they are pretentious cause they say stuff about their music that reveals their reverence toward it. I don't see that as pretentious at all, I see it more as an emotional connection to the music which I would credit as a major key to their success in creating beautiful art. Furthermore, I don't see it as relevant whether a band is pretentious anyways.
Considering all of this I found it comical in a good way that someone posted that stuff about the Mayan calendar. Thanks for the smirk you caused me to experience. hopefully you are entertained by my foolish defense of Tool.

I actually love Tool.
Lateralus is one of my all time favorite albums.
10,000 days was alright but no one can say that it matched up to Lateralus.
|
| |
I used to worship everything Maynard ever did.
|
| |
^^ alot of people do for some reason. Maybe cause he's awesome
|
| |
Excellent news!
And I simply cannot comprehend how anyone could think 10,000 days is a bad album. Don't forget they had the practically impossible task of following Lateralus.
|
| |
I am hoping they experiment this time. My biggest problem with 10,000 days, and by no means does this mean I didn't like the album, was that it felt like Tool hadn't expanded their sound in the five years between it and Lateralus. With that being said Wings for Marie is one of my favorite songs by them.
|
| |
I don't get Tool. I've heard Anemia and it didn't do anything for me and I bought 10'000 Days and I think it's shit. I love A Perfect Circle though...

I like tool and all... but that was the best post i've read in years.

Honestly I agree with Shiver 44, I don't think they expanded or even altered their
sound at all for 10,000 days. I mean honestly I had my itunes playing Lateralus
(favorite Tool record) and it ended and 10,000 days came on and it almost seemed
like it came from the same session as Lateralus, like it was it's b-sides or something
and I completely expected something grand after a 5 year hiatus but we got only
decency.
HOWever, I am still excited that a new album is on the way. This Message Edited On 03.20.08

I'm really trying not to get excited.
But...I cant help it
At least they're working. I'm kind of anxious for their next album, i'm afraid it will be mediocre or just bad. But it is Tool, and they haven't disappointed me thus far.
I guess we'll see in about 3 or 4 years.

I find that amusing, seeing as most bands release albums every 2 or so years on average. This is very exciting. I hope its as good as 10k days.
|

it'll still probably be another 4 years before it's released though, tool does have a habit of creating a long length of time between album releases.
