Morphine Emerge from Cocoon 2026-09-25 by John Marinakis CONTRIBUTOR | 3 Comments | Morphine will release Cocoon on December 4 through Partisan Records, bringing eight songs from abandoned 1998 sessions to light.
The recordings predate The Night, released posthumously in 2000 following frontman Mark Sandman's death the previous year. Originally produced by Paul Q. Kolderie and Sean Slade, the sessions were shelved as the band pursued the material that became that album.
Sandman's partner and estate manager, Sabine Hrechdakian, worked with Kolderie to revisit and transfer the original tapes. Saxophonist Dana Colley contributed new parts, while Kolderie remixed the recordings to complete the release.
The title track is available now alongside a video assembled from archival footage. The album also includes previously unseen artwork and photography by Sandman, with liner notes by writer Hanif Abdurraqib.
The tracklist is:
1. Tomorrow
2. Wig
3. Patience
4. Spaceman Charm
5. Justine
6. Moons of Jupiter
7. Cocoon
8. Pretty Face
