Lordi win EurovisionSongContes

2006-05-20 by Damrod EMERITUS | 14 Comments
The Eurovision Song Contest has been shaken to it's bones. The contest that was dominated by mellow Pop- and Folk-like music over decades so to say, has been won by the Finnish Hard Rock band Lordi (and with a more than clear vote that is).
This is a big suprise, as most, if not all alternative acts in past years have failed pretty miserable (like the Turkish Ska-punk band Athena in 2004). This could mark a significant change how the contest might be approached in the future. Having the reputation of an old-folks-show for years and losing more and more 'fans', the success of Lordi could be the sign of the renewal of the traditional show.
This reform has been called for by many in the past, stating that the show moves more and more into the offside, losing contact to the younger group of music listeners. If this will really happen will be revealed in the future.
It would be a very interesting development for sure, and would make it much more enjoyable for a wider variety of music listeners.

best thing is, most eurovision acts aim for integrity and artiness (in their own minds anyway) and end up cheesy. Lordi just overdid the cheese in a massive parody and won it!

fucking excellent work chaps!

You should listen to the acual studio songs. They are awsome and they definatly deserved to win. Just think for a sec. Everyone in the WHOLE of europe was waiting for a band like Lordi to show up. They ain't great but now they have opened up a new area to the whole compatition. We might acually see DECENT bands entered into the contest. We definatly owe Lordi. All of my friends have gone insanly hyper, as have I, because a masked goreish looking band has won one of the most suckiest song contest in the world. They DO suck, but think of the future.

It's typical that Finland shows up with a band like that. I was rooting for them because they were hilarious. The song was abysmal though, but hey, it's the Eurovision Song Contest, so of course it did.

I started watching it just as Lordi were playing. It was nuts, It was like watching the Dowload festival or something. I'm glad something with a bit of humour won this year. They actually made Eurovision worth watching. Congrets Lordi

that was a complete joke.....

I didn't watch the contest, all I did was watch a clip of lordi playing on youtube....and frankly, its just a joke. Were the other performances really that bad?

Like, Lordi aren't such a terrible band, but cm'on.....the only thing that sold that song to me(which might I add, was a terrible song, they have much better songs...) was their stage prescence, and the "catchy" 2/4 drum beats, aided by the keyboards...

Proud to be Finnish today...

It's pretty amazing, it's been an every-year joke here that we would win the Eurovisions. Finally tried something different, and what do we get? Best points ever!

Lordi winning this year makes up for Wig Wam not winning last year.
And come on, Lordi deserved to win for their lyrics alone:
'The true believers, thou shalt be saved / Brothers and sisters keep strong in the faith / On the day of rockening / It's who dares wins / You will see the jokers soon will be the new kings'
...do you know how long I've been waiting for a band to mention the Day of Rockening? Or the Arockalypse? God bless 'em.
And yeah, the other performances were THAT bad.

Well, they were the only band to acually be NOTICED!
