Never thought I'd ever see this kind of news about My Dying Bride...
| |
At least it's not another obituary.
| |
This has been something thats been building for awhile. Lena had said in an interview Aarons not only been putting a wedge between he and Andrew but the whole band. (Iffy) There was something else that said he hadnt been to practice since 37% or something and just comes in records vocals and leaves. I would say the final straw was Aaron headlining a high parasite gig with an acoustic MDB set.
This is shitty news but it was all but guranteed to happen atp with how MDB was touring without Aaron and a "hiatus" after releasing A mortal binding. Having seen them with Mikko while Aaron was unique and is a signature sound, if they find the right person he can be replaced. That person is not Mikko tho
| |
But it doesnt matter whose fsult it is really nobody is a winner in this, both sides lose.
Its very very shit
| |
Maaaaannnnn… one of my top 3 bands, and it’s because of their vocalist. Aaron is the best voice in the genre
| |
i feel like this is going to get very spicy when aaron posts his side of it as from the wording we can deduce this was done without any knowledge from aaron
| |
Yeah this won't be fun. Kicking someone out for losing interest in the band is pretty low on the list of kickable offenses, at least?
| |
I read from a news outlet quoted by Blabbermouth that Aaron implored the band to call him and sort things out.
Statements in media is not the way to do this, and frankly I'm a bit surprised it has come to that, I thought these guys knew better.
| |
I certainly don't think it's fair to pin issues with creativity and lack of motivation directly on the vocalist. Sounds like the whole band is stagnant. Also, pretty unfair to criticize the dude for choosing to record his vocals and leave. If he doesn't compose the music or doesn't play an instrument then why should he be there? Randy Blythe made that same argument on the Sacrament documentary where he's basically like "I've been with the guys while they're jamming but soon realized I couldn't offer anything other than being in the way so I just wait for demos to come through, get my lyrics written, and record when I'm needed."
| |
It's more like the band parted ways with its existence.
Don't try to call yourself MDB. Rebrand.
| |
The other problem is both Aaron and Andrew said in news outletd is "We tried contacting them other party but they ghosted us" or "Im not going to be the one to call first"
| |
damn, the vocals really make this band. he's not even that great of a singer but his voice is iconic and dripping in emotion. gonna be tough to replace
| |
WHAAAAAAAAt? This band will not be the same without him. This is crazy news, to me at least. He is an original member correct?
| |
They will fall off hard without Aaron - I can almost guarantee it.
| |
This was long coming. Aaron obviously wanted to move on and said in interviews that he felt young again with his new band. Not a word on My Dying Bride whatsoever.
Also his growls have been pretty weak in the last few releases, so this might be a chance for MdB afterall.
But yes, his voice was iconic and it will be tough to find a proper replacement.
| |
I saw his new band live this year. Aaron was very humble and kept thanking everyone for the opportunity to play, etc. He really looked happy in his new position. So, I’m not even sure which side to choose here... On one hand, it’s sad to see them part ways, but on the other, I’m glad he’s moving forward and staying productive with another band.
| |
"They will fall off hard without Aaron - I can almost guarantee it."
He's without doubt, THE integral member of of the band; the overriding soul and identity. Yeah, I too can't see how they can feasibly carry on under that name without him.
Even if they were to think of him as a complete douchebag (which I would highly expect they would for whatever internal squabbles have led to this), it's simply the case that Aaron is the pivotal presence, despite how great the others are, musically.
| |
Theres no sides to pick, no matter what emerges no one wins or loses, theyll all be at fault in one way or another. I just hope they actually act like fucking adults and no petulant children in resolving this matter in a civil way
| |
^ Already too late on the “petulant children” thing (just seen a little bitchy social media post).
It’s basically a break-up, with the remaining members keeping the name. Nothing more. Both parties will probably just carry on making lesser-quality material than before, and things just move on (High Parasite for example, doesn’t hold a candle to MDB at their best, but so far it’s enjoyable enough and Aaron seems like he’s having a lot of fun with it… as it feels a lot looser and boppier, and just the thing he actually WANTS to make).
| |
I heard The guy from Swallow The Sun might be a good replacement. Didn't know he did vocals live for them. I've liked some of their stuff, Don't know how good he'd be at replacing Aaron though.
| |
Mikko is fine live but isnt a good long time replacement for MDB
| |
I don't know how they can continue without him. I've heard he's a nightmare to work with but he's ultimately a huge part of their appeal.
| |
Parroting something i saw elsewhere, I want them to get a Woman as a replacement
| |
I don't what the new vocalist's gender is, as long as they're a decent fit
| |
if they replace with a woman they should change the band name to the dying bride
"I heard The guy from Swallow The Sun might be a good replacement."
i love sts but this would be disastrous
| |
Mikko stays with with MDB, Aaron goes to STS
it worked for In Flames and Dark Tranquility ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
| |
I think someone like Darren White could have the potential to work.
| |
I just thought a womans vocals would add a dramatic and a new variation on the songs and be different enough that it shrugs off the "Not Aaron" comments. Overall it has to be someone who can fit with the bands catalogue
| |
And what Noctus said (2)
| |
My Dying B[r]and
| |
damn this is crazy. aarons vocals are a core part of their sounds identity. still interested in what kind of vocalist they will go for moving forward.
| |
A female Vocalist would not make it sound like MDB anymore, But getting a good replacement with added female vocals wouldn't hurt. Maybe Lena Abé (The Basses) could have some moments.
| |
I think it’s time to throw in the towel, personally. Band has been running on fumes anyway, now they don’t have their most identifiable member. The live clips with the STS guy are horrendous. Aaron is their sound.
| |
Yeah, I agree sadly.
| |
"aarons vocals are a core part of their sounds identity."
Not just his vocals alone; he's a wonderful, unique lyricist too. Irreplaceable in this band, really.
| |
I don't know what they're hoping to achieve without him. MDB with Aaron playing/writing at 50% pace seems like it'd still be more marketable/respected than the band with a new frontman plus the bad press of kicking him out
| |
The lyrics will be the deal breaker for me if whoever replaces him cant write the same gothic romantic lyrics than thatll be the breaking point for me
| |
Another of the band mates has come out and said Aaron basically told hi. He was done and to find soneone else. Same guy also responded to Aarons shit meme post with "you can post a shit meme but not reply to an email"
| |
High parasites kinda meh
| |
Oh I think Forever We Burn is a really fun album. It's no MDB ofc, if anything it's more 2000's Paradise Lost.
| |
Its falling quite flat for me
| |
Interestingly enough, Aaron posted today on Instagram a current pic of him having a beer with Calvin Robershaw, Martin Powell and Rick Miah.
| |
Now this is getting somewhere.
| |
brb getting popcorn
| |
OH SHIT.
| |
eli5 why that is significant
| |
they're all founding members of MDB. so if they formed a new My Dying Bride, they'd have a strong case for taking the name.
| |
Rumor has it they're dropping a new band Your Living Groom
| |
what about my living room
| |
Boom. Discussion ended.
| |
I doubt there will be anything from the beer career wise, he was probably just catching up with mates and it was a perfect jab at the band
