We sure this isn't Invent, Animate?
| |
nothing insane, but i like it more than Cure
| |
Bring back the Drift guitar twang please djesus
| |
Probably sucks.
| |
Actually done really well. I wish there was more to it somehow, like the breakdown was really vanilla, but the intro/recurring riff is great and the melodic sections are also great.
I feel like they’re getting too clean. Like Jesse’s voice sounds immaculate to a fault. I miss some of the grit.
All in all I really dig this, better than Cure. But I’m still left wanting more and the flaws stick out for me
| |
And yes randomguitarist, mega IA vibes in that riff haha
| |
Definitely sounds like they picked up a couple tricks from Invent, Animate. I don't hate it, but I doubt they'll ever impress me again. Everything they've done in recent years is just too indistinguishable from the dozens of other bands going for this sound.
| |
It feels like this band has 2 new albums every year.
| |
Main riff goes dummy hard. Really solid tune overall, dig it more than most of Cure but they haven't been able to reach that "next level" mark since S/T.
| |
pretty good
| |
Bore the life out of me these days
| |
I can get behind either take To be honest lol. Totally understandable
| |
This was boring af, man. The most stock ass riffs ever imagined. My goats are washed I fear.
| |
The Jesse show continues
| |
This is indeed an ERRA song.
| |
The more I listen the more I like it. The two things I don’t like are continuations of the Cure “formula” which is the chorus melody and how pristine Jesse’s voice sounds, and then the mundane breakdown. The open brown note repeat is so stale lol
| |
ERRA overdose.
| |
Good song overall, but i'm starting to really dislike JTs vocals. Their self titled album, he showed a lot more versatility in his voice and now he sounds so monotone and throws his vocals on top of everything Jesse's singing. Very annoying and a big reason I didnt enjoy Cure very much.
| |
Kick out JT and bring back Garrison Lee
| |
the Bore of Geing
| |
This is very meh
| |
JT sucks, always has. I've never understood the praise he gets.
| |
Cause he has insane power and clarity. But I understand the monotone complaints they just don’t bother me specifically
| |
It's aight but this band peaked a while ago. I generally like JT's voice but the band rarely uses him in interesting ways like they did on some self-titled tracks so now he's just the mid-range scream guy again. Jesse's voice has very little texture to it now that he's not singing a step or so out of his range and needing to belt every high note anymore. The main riff is pretty cool but this band just doesn't do it for me like they used to. Not sure if that's the band getting stale or me and my tastes changing, but I'd guess that it's a little of both.
| |
> Kick out JT and bring back Garrison Lee
The exact same complaints that people have made about JT can be applied to Garrison. JT has more of a mid range yell-scream than Garrison's low growl but neither of them have added much to the band outside of the abrasive texture that screaming brings.
| |
Garrison was the main vocalist at least with Jesse sprinkled in. Now it’s just the Jesse show with JT popping in to break up the cleans.
| |
Aren't most harsh vocalists pretty monotone? lol, I never really got that complaint about JT specifically. Think people just don't care for his tone, I could see that. I'm VERY tired of his tone at this point lol.
| |
I think Jesse has always been the main brain of the band, and I don't really think he was ever "sprinkled" in, lol. Almost every chorus on Augment is him driving the main melody, sometimes with Garrison adding some lines in for spice. Drift and Neon were definitely tipping points where I felt like the entire band became entirely structured around him, but that has little to do with JT's talent. I think he has a stronger voice and when he sings he's actually really good, like on Eidolon and Snowblood. They just never bother using him outside of little moments like that and I think that's a mistake, but I'm also a big sucker for bands with multiple singers and vocal harmonies. I have a similar complaint of Spiritbox, where they have Josh (bassist) sing tons of harmonies and back up lines live but he gets like one on Tsunami Sea because the band is still the Courtney and Mike show.
| |
Jesse pops off as usual, nice track
| |
I completely fell off with ERRA after Augment... just hasn't hit the same since
Still have to check out the recent Ghost Atlas record
| |
Seriously though... why can't they just give us one album that recreates the Impulse sound, just one time... Give us spacey ambience, chaotic song structures, chaotic riffs. If the answer is "that sound doesn't have a broad appeal", that'd be very disappointing to hear.
| |
This band is pretty cut and dry verse/chorus/verse/breakdown no?
| |
Pretty much. They get tossed in the proggy circles since they're really technical but their song structures have never been terribly interesting by themselves.
| |
Yeah I may not fully agree with the word choice, but “chaos” is definitely the bulk of what’s missing to me. They need a major shakeup to both the song structures as well as the written guitar lines. The IA part here def showcases that, but it’s the only part that does so. He did a great job on s/t with piecing together actual riffs but since then it’s been formulaic as all hell
| |
zzzzzzz
| |
can these metalcore bands please stop with the melodramatic clean vocal section for the love of god
| |
Yeah I’m almost completely over clean singing at this point lol. It’s so pigeon holed into every single song it’s obnoxious. And Jesse is arguably one of the best at it. But I’m so tired of it
| |
Listening to this properly now.
This is boring as batshit, whats proggy about this? There is literally nothing interesting about this song. Clean vocals are over the the top and overused, would have been better only as first chorus then bridge. Guy can sing but it kind of dominates the song and doesent allow everything else to breathe
| |
If erra just stopped with clean vocals now it would be weird and also a waste. Jesse sounds great and its always been a big part of their sound.
| |
Its boring
| |
thats metalcore for ya
| |
Ill go back to my Daoboys or Rolo and just ignore most of the genre most likely
| |
These guys used to cram like 50 cool ass riffs into a 3 minute song, Garrison was going from mid range yells to high shrieks and insane lows at the drop of a dime, and they'd managed to sprinkle in harps and keys and shit
Now you're lucky if you even get 2 memorable riffs in an Erra song, JT doing regular degular mid range screams, government mandated Jessie clean vocal chorus, and the climax will be a boring breakdown.
The fall off is tragic.
| |
The fall off is tragic. [2]
It's like Underoath level tbh. Band is so awful now.
| |
"government mandated Jessie clean vocal chorus"
Lmao. But yeah, I agree with pretty much this whole comment.
| |
This overproduced djent with monotonous mid harsh verses and castrated choir boy choruses does absolutely nothing for me whatsoever, like even less than radio pop
Gore of being is also one of the most awkward combinations of words
| |
Jeet [2]
| |
JT is like if karl schubach was ass
| |
Even as somebody who's never been that big on them besides S/T, the moment I heard Cure I said:
"Ah, so we're on the Architects career trajectory now."
| |
Lotta hate on this song, yeesh lol. Cure wasn't my favorite from them, but S/T was SO good, a high point for progressive metalcore as a genre IMO. Still excited to hear what these guys do on this album.
| |
augment is cool but just about everything else this band has done is not
s/t has a couple bangers but that's it
| |
Yeah Cure had me worried and this didn't change that too much
| |
Might be my favorite thing they have done with JT. I'm excited.
| |
this has a lot more energy than Cure so far but it's still not grabbing me
| |
