Mogwai documentary trailer

2024-01-11 by Nikkolae | 23 Comments
Post-rock titans Mogwai have released the first trailer for their upcoming documentary If the Stars Had a Sound.

The documentary will premiere at South by Southwest in March, and the band has just released the initial trailer. The film documents their rise from from humble beginings to a certified post-rock institution.

“We’re incredibly excited for people to see Antony’s film If the Stars Had a Sound. It originally started as a short film around leaving Scotland to record in upstate New York in early 2020 but when the pandemic happened that all changed. Both ourselves and Antony persevered with the record and the film throughout the pandemic with the film growing throughout." said Stuart Braithwaite in a press release for the project.

Will it be as boring as Mogwai's music?

Young Team is amazing, I'm not sure about their rest. Definitely will check the movie, but the full stop at the end of the title bothers me.

The early EPs etc, Young Team, CODY, Rock Action and Happy Songs are a great run and all essential stuff

More quality material just in that stretch than 90% of well known bands deliver in their entire careers tbh

yeah, they've certainly earned the right to be a bit shit now, lol

I do enjoy everything up until that point. Rock Action and Happy Songs were important albums to me way back when and I still dust them off occasionally. CODY stood the test of time remarkably well and eventually became my fave Mogwai

probably won't watch this because honestly I never watch anything like this

CODY was underrated, I think it got a slightly muted reaction from press at the time, but I also think it's their best

Lol! Yeah, they go between amazing to dull AF within a heartbeat. That topic alone would probably justify a documentary... just: "Why are you like this?"

'CODY was underrated, I think it got a slightly muted reaction from press at the time, but I also think it's their best'

Good take! CODY does appear to have received a somewhat better reception in retrospect (at least amongst long-time fans - admittedly I didn't appreciate quite how good it was back in the day either). Maybe the over-saturation of wave 3 post-rock aka 'crescendo-core' puts it in a better light

Pretty sure the period is just cuz it’s the end of the sentence

I think you’re right. Title in the video is without.

I like Mogwai. Not super familiar with them, but i love music/band documentaries, so i may watch this someday

They're perfect music for documentaries about airplanes or ships or shit like that though

So them making a documentary themselves makes sense

they've done docs before so this totally fits their sense of humor too.
