also fwiw Chelsea Wolfe moved to different management late last year and there are rumours that she's on her way out of SH, but I didn't see enough substantiating that to include it in the body
gross disappointing hypocritical scenes if true though
|
| |
You think you know a record label tch
|
| |
And the comments from instagram have others sharing their stories as well
|
| |
Also Johnny it’s all true, she wanted to make the changes a long while ago
|
| |
damn, if there was any label that WOULDN'T be like this, I would have guessed SH. Why is it so hard for people to be decent. It'll be interesting to see how their artists react.
|
| |
this breaks my damn heart.
|
| |
Wow that was unexpected
|
| |
They used to be one of my favourite labels. This is heart-breaking if true.
|
| |
El Club, you say? I've been to a couple shows there.
|
| |
I will never love again
|
| |
(
|
| |
Seems like Alexis would’ve been right at home with SH after all…
Very disappointing to hear this
|
| |
all i'm asking is at least one month without my favourite labels or bands being revealed as complete shitheads. is that so hard to do?
|
| |
This is a bummer for sure for an absolutely stacked label that has appeared to really put their artists first. Hopefully this will lead to change in company culture.
|
| |
Hey as long as they don't start throwing pillows at each other idc
|
| |
try not to be an asshole to your musicians challenge (impossible)
|
| |
@butt
[2]
Virtue signaling and performative empathy, all those posts and she turns around and acts like this. Really fucking disappointing.
|
| |
What a disappointment
|
| |
god this is awful. video makes her sound like a real shitty person
|
| |
Really shitty. Thought sargent house was one of the good ones
|
| |
damn it seems like Lingua Ignota can't catch a break being surrounded by abusers and shitty people
|
| |
damn, if there was any label that WOULDN'T be like this, I would have guessed SH[2]
Hoping the artists affected can find a better place to get their music released
|
| |
everyone knows El Club's founder was a POS. he's still hanging around in a vague capacity. interesting I've seen Chelsea Wolfe there, as well as Russian Circles...
|
| |
wtf i only know of this label for distributing ttng lmao gross
|
| |
now do Sacred Bones next
|
| |
literally took the moral high ground and shamed people for not voting and then it turns out shes calling women under her control c*nts and ignoring sexual assault.
what a piece of shit
|
| |
"now do Sacred Bones next"
is it bad that I forgot that Sacred Bones was a completely different label?
|
| |
Lingua just posted on her stories she cut ties with Cathy also last year.
Thought this had been strangely quiet since when this type of shit comes out about men theyre torn down (rightfully)immedietly but all Cathys ex chums who always spoken so nice like Chelsea/LI/ERR havent said anything.
I really like how Henry said he didnt want the label cancelled but to hold up to the Values they claim to hold. Seems a nice kid and awful that this happened. Our scene is full of absolute rats parading as good people
|
| |
holy shit
|
| |
"Thought this had been strangely quiet since when this type of shit comes out about men theyre torn down (rightfully)immedietly but all Cathys ex chums who always spoken so nice like Chelsea/LI/ERR havent said anything."
there might various reasons why they can't do this immediately. it could simply be a case of needing to choose what they say, so as not to misrepresent the experience of others, cause these sorts of things often effect individuals in different ways.
There might also be a self-preservation aspect too, they'd want to have an out within the industry somewhere else (other labels lined up, etc) before burning bridges
|
| |
Yeah true true but seems KH already cut ties last year and Chelsea was also looking to leaving, If you read the comments under his post its clear shes been a piece of shit to many many people, Hard to believe none of them saw this but I guess thats how manipulation works. Im not the biggest SH fan but for sure would have been the one of the least likely places I thought this shit was going on.
|
| |
This is some fuckery. They're home to such a roster.
"damn, if there was any label that WOULDN'T be like this, I would have guessed SH"
Unfortunately, we've now seen time and again that righteous output doesn't always allign to righteous people behind it.
|
| |
unionization would solve a lot of these issues but that won't generate as much attention as a long Youtube video laying out all your grievances with a person. I wish I could've cancelled all my terrible bosses but people seem to care a lot less about an abusive manager at Target or Amazon
|
| |
Popping in to say Mylets has some terrific music btw. Check out Arizona guys

Statement from Cathy
|
| |
^seems promising but we'll just have to wait and see tbh
|
| |
Her stepping away from Sargent House is the only way I’d continue supporting the label so this is good I guess
|
| |
Wow, that statement came out fast and surprisingly didn’t suck ass
|
| |
Well, here's hoping it isn't just talk. Still, this seems a bit like a drop in the bucket of the entertainment industry's persistent inability to treat its workplaces as workplaces. It's frustrating how clearly these kinds of stories show how little recourse many music workers have when dealing with more powerful figures in the industry, and how consistently that gets elided when it's time to dole out apologies.
|
| |
I mean usually these kinds of statements are (rightfully) met with an extreme amount of skepticism and scrutiny when the perpetrator is male. Just something to consider while processing this one. I don’t care what she says unless the victims themselves feel it’s genuine.
|
| |
Yeah I’m in the “fuck her, doesn’t matter what she says” camp.
Shes been pulling this shit for years and now that she got called out for its all apologies and “I’m working on myself” bullshit.
Not to mention, Chelsea and Kris both left the label relatively recently for their “mental health”, so that means Cathy was probably still extremely toxic up until then.
I don’t really buy any of this.
|
| |
It is natural to want to be more forgiving when it comes to genders that are usually disproportionately victimized but this instinct is a disservice to the actual victims at hand and the apologetics should be treated the same as usual: with a massive grain of salt
|
| |
I’m less concerned with the “working on myself” part, because yeah 99% of the time that’s just manipulative bullshit, but rather it’s refreshing to see someone repeatedly say “this is my fault and I alone am responsible for all of it”. Fuck her, still, but that’s a better statement than what you’ll typically see when a dude is literally accused of rape
|
| |
Idk there are several other recent statements that come to mind that took the same angle as this and were near unanimously regarded as disingenuous and manipulative but I don’t want to bring up specifics because then we get into the territory of comparing severity and minutia of that nature when the focus should remain on justice for the victims at hand.
|
| |
People have low standards for people in these type of situations I think so it's good to see the accused acknowledge the behavior in these situations I think. Compare that to the recent denials from people like Marilyn Manson or Justin roiland, people that leave little to no doubt that they aren't complete monsters, and this post comes off fairly positive. But as you said it's possible she's just really really good at being manipulative and she knows how to weave her words to put her in a better light.
|
| |
That’s just the problem, there is no way to know if these kinds of statements are genuine or just further evidence of manipulation from seasoned, serial manipulators, and narcissists which these people often are. Half the time their statements probably aren’t even written by them. Is it better to see this kind of acknowledgement rather than denial? Not if the intent is merely to salvage what’s left of their reputation and to manage the repercussions. But there is no way to know. So it’s best to just disregard it completely and see if there is follow through after justice is served or if these are just empty words.
|
| |
Yeah, it's something to think about but a lot of it is uncertain until time reveals all. The people that deny wrongdoing might be the better option in that regard because we know we can expect those people to not change. Both Rick and morty writers got canceled but Dan was "forgiven" by Adult Swim, Roiland was dropped almost immediately.
|
| |
Cathy's statement only says she won't be posting from SH accounts anymore, not that she's not in charge of the label. Guess I won't be supporting any bands on SH anymore *shrug*
|
| |
god I completely misread the end of that fifth paragraph then. To me it sounded like she was stepping away from management of the label not management of the social media accounts
Jesus fucking christ. Sargent House was probably my favorite label behind Deathwish.
|
| |
She is/was a band manager on top of being the label owner, so it is unclear if she’s stepping away from label management or simply being a band manager. I decided to message her on Instagram. Let’s see if she replies.
|
| |
She’s probably getting flooded with messages but that’s definitely something I’d like to know.
Does anyone know if smaller labels take a cut of merch sold at shows?
|
| |
Brian from both/russian circles etc etc

I dunno man. He’s got no reason to lie, I’m sure she’s done some good. But hearing about all of the bad shit she’s done over the last few days (also corroborated by multiple SH artists and employees) still makes me not want to support the label if she’s in charge.
|
| |
What are the specific examples of bad shit she's done that you've heard? I do have to say I applaud Brian for having a level headed response, I feel for him and am sympathetic to the bizarre situation he and the other artists are in right now. Sometimes you really never see the ugly side of a person that other person see, and maybe that's what's happening here. regardless, I agree with him that the power of internet mobs is scary af and it often looks more like mass hysteria than well-reasoned arguments
|
| |
idk, in the end, it sounds like she can be really great and really terrible in the same week and I'm not gonna cancel a band on the label simply for staying put.
|
| |
Sounds to me shes really nice to the 'Cool' folk and not so with her underlings
|
| |
Just reading Instagram comments on Henry’s post, the post itself, along with Chelsea Wolfe, Kris from King Woman, and Kristin Hayter (and Emma Ruth Rundle I think) all reposting stuff about how toxic Cathy can be.
I’m not canceling any musician or band that sticks with Sargent House. I’m just going to have a very hard time supporting them if I know Cathy is making money off of them.
|
| |
“Sounds to me shes really nice to the 'Cool' folk and not so with her underlings”
^^this is exactly what I’m thinking. Someone claiming to have worked for SH said that she’s a feminist in the sense that she cares about wealthy white women. and I’ve gotten that vibe literally ever since the democratic primaries and the general election 3 years ago. She absolutely dragged me on ig because I asked why I should support a candidate that doesn’t give a shit about me.
|
| |
really? haha
There was enough comments on that IG post from ex workers to make me think that, but hey 2 sides to every story etc etc
|
| |
Oh yeah man she really went off on me lmfao. I don’t usually comment on instagram since my profile is literally completely blank and I only follow bands and labels I like, but some of the stuff she was posting around then kinda got on my nerves
Like I said, I’m sure she’s done some good but enough musicians that I have a lot of respect for have said they left SH “for mental health” that I don’t really feel comfortable basically giving more money to her.
