Shockingly this is actually more boring than the last track. Wtf happened? Should’ve stayed dead at this point
| |
Sounds like a leftover from one of Omar's solo records. And that's not a compliment.
| |
Nah this is way better. Bringing the Notourniquet vibe but leaning even harder on the moody electronics. I like it a lot. Cedric sounds pretty damn good on this stuff considering how bad those ATDI reunion shows looked and sounded.
| |
Yeah this and the last single are 100% Garbage. I saw Mars Volta open for RHCP in 2006 and it was awful. Their opening set was just a straight wall of noise.
| |
I like the synths at the end but that's about it. This is gonna be a tough one.
| |
I was like aw shit here we fucking go and then it ended
| |
“Bringing the Notourniquet vibe” hard disagree on that one. Noctourniquet is a very spooky, atmospheric album, even if it’s not as great as their other stuff. This just sounds like something that any indie band from the last decade could’ve released. Totally unremarkable and not memorable

"Yeah this and the last single are 100% Garbage. I saw Mars Volta open for RHCP in 2006 and it was awful. Their opening set was just a straight wall of noise."
I saw them when they toured as healdiners/solo for De-loused and Frances the Mute. Amazing shows. Smaller venues. Ballroom/small theaters. Perfect for their sound at the time.
But I also saw them on that 2006 tour with RHCP. They sounded awful. Every single person I've heard who went to those shows says the same thing. I don't think their sound translates to big arenas. Also by that point the band had an extra percussionist and a second guitarist which I don't think they knew how to work in live considering they were already a noisy band as the original 5 piece.
Anyway this song is okay I guess. I still think De-loused is one of my favorite albums of all time. Everything that followed has been a mixed bag, though I think Frances, Bedlam, and Octahedron are pretty solid albums.
But after the snooze-fest that was Noctourniquet and their "break up" I have doubts they'll ever recapture the wild energy they had early on.
| |
I think it's very good
| |
I love this tbh
| |
such a pretty little song
| |
Nah you guys wrong this song is awesome.
| |
Wow are there some c*nts on this website. This song is fresh, albeit I enjoyed it less than Blacklight Shine.
The cinematic videos are also a big part of the new material's charm. Can't wait for more.
| |
some people will hate it but i really dig it, groovy stuff, i think the song is longer on whatever it's going to end up on, though, because this ending doesn't make much sense.
| |
It will be divisive but if you like this style you'll dig it
| |
should watch the music video with the visuals, it's great
| |
"Their opening set was just a straight wall of noise"
they often did that on purpose iirc
| |
Feels like this song really wanted to go somewhere cool and just kind of didn't
| |
This is pretty cool. Kinda seems like TMV are going pop on this one, finna be interesting
| |
I dig this for what it is. The songs never takes off but it's clear to.me this a part 1 or a lead into a bigger track given the almost-climax and abrupt ending.
| |
Well I highly enjoyed the other new song. I still have faith in the new album
| |
Lmao
| |
"Yeah this and the last single are 100% Garbage. I saw Mars Volta open for RHCP in 2006 and it was awful. Their opening set was just a straight wall of noise."
... But you were cool with sitting through RHCP? Hmm.
| |
Dope song. I'm hoping both of these singles lead into some big progressive spaz outs. It seems like they're leading up to something like that. Wishful thinking perhaps.
| |
these songs seem part of some project about puerto rico, in the description, they list events historically in puerto rico, including all the violence, us land grabs, etc. and talk about colonialism, exploitation, etc. so it's actually deep stuff
| |
The fight for independence there never ending.

If MV took an 1/8 of the time they devoted to embodying and portraying the evil white man (imagine Daniel Day Lewis method acting but it lasts basically from 2002-2012) and instead devoted that time to making actual music like this release and the last one, then hey maybe they would have written these 2 last songs when they were 26 instead of 46, and the jimi hendrix comparisons would have some truth to them. Still I'm happy to hear the last 2 releases. They seem to have a positive spirit, with actual harmony and are actually uplifting! aka real music, something I never thought I would hear from these guys! So that IS a good thing.. But no, they have not won my trust yet. Like that one song of frances the mute, "Who do you trust?" I imagine Anthony Kiedis singing it, who I do like, but even then sounds bad. I feel the same way when Cedric sings it, especially when Omar is playing right next to him. I will not be chroming the fetal mirage, and I do not feel good vibes or uplifted during that number. Then there's the amputechture and bedlam years... yikes. a big aw HELL NAW. Octahedron era continues the horribleness closed out by a souless, vapid noctourniquet and 10 years of general confusion.,,, but yes, now we have arrived with REAL MUSIC. televators and "Counting the toll"' are real songs indeed, but geeeeeeze there are YEARS of terrible shit y'ALL u know what I mean do I have to?

It's only 3 minutes... all this does feel like major teasing for hopefully bigger stuff.
Groovy track. want to hear what comes after
| |
Cedric is sounding really good on this one
| |
More bore

Trash

"I will not be chroming the fetal mirage"
Unfortunately, I believe you chromed it once too often.

I feel like I was pretty clear with my words, IsisBib on the other hand

Having a tough time following that stream of consciousness
| |
I will not be chroming the fetal mirage
| |
Shame this is so vapid and boring because new ATDI was actually decent
| |
Yeah, I'm a pretty big white knighter for post-Frances TMV, but this is honestly boring. I actually loved the last song too, so honestly whatever album this is part of better justify the comeback, or else this will be prog rock's own Fall Out Boy reunion.
Someone mentioned this sounds like a leftover Omar solo track and they're not wrong.
| |
Nothing to write home about but it's a song and that's a big improvement over whatever that last vid was.
| |
Found this decent despite having chromed the fetal mirage.
| |
When that sax hit, the song felt so right. Like everyone else is saying, though, I hope there's some more payoff for all the musical buildup, quieter moments
| |
All three singles bored me to hell, albeit Cedric sounding quite awesome! But they shattered my not so low expectations... I actually dug Noctourniquet quite a lot, so hearing they kept electronica in the loop (pun intended) was fine with me, but these songs all sound sooo lazy. still will give the album a chance of course.
