New Jonathan Davis single

2018-01-26 by DatsNotDaMetulz | 35 Comments
Korn frontman Jonathan Davis has released the first single from his debut solo album, which is set for release later this year via Sumerian Records. The album has been in the works for over 10 years, with various tracks released during that time but with none confirmed for the album so far. This single, entitled "What It Is", is also featured on the soundtrack to the film American Satan, which Davis co-wrote the score for.

I think it's alright. The big curse of having a distinctive vocal style is no matter who you sing for, it's going to sound like your main band. It sounds like it took inspiration from the gothic side of the 2007 untitled Korn album.

Alright [2]

Hard to make something really unlistenable with a voice like Davis' anyway

Not bad. If the whole album sounds like this it'll get old but it's a good single

Hopefully he will on other songs. Probably trying not to since that's "KoRn" even more than his other vocal styles elements

Vocal melodies remind me of Evanescence.

Not bad overall, but some definite flaws. Better than I expected, so that's something I guess.

Make it your alarm, wake up every day confused and angry, like typical white boys.

Song is actually pretty catchy, good stuff. Scat album would be incredible, maybe an album of covers done in his scat style.

This might be sacrilege and I only listened to it once, but I got Katatonia vibes a couple of times here.

Gmork I didn't pick up any Katatonia, but it does sound within the gothic metal sphere.

"Gmork I didn't pick up any Katatonia, but it does sound within the gothic metal sphere."

Mainly that riff in the chorus and the electronic lead over it, and the quiet part during the bridge. Obviously not the vocals or lyrics though, just something that popped into my head a couple of times.

A lot better than my initial expectations. Its not something I'd go out of my way to listen to, but as a KoRn fan, I appreciate it.

I did ask in the Meds forum for them to change the name of the artist page to simply "Jonathan Davis" but it seems nobody noticed it. Don't really want to make a new artist entry when they're basically the same thing.
