Motivation for the new scoring system:

Whenever I read articles or listen to pods/interviews with people struggling to rank things, it’s often because they usually don’t like the big drop-offs or tiers that they see in the quality of whatever they’re ranking. It’s still not super accurate, but it makes sense to appropriate points rather than rankings to relieve this issue.

Jom didn’t mention it in his instructions, but if someone forgets to give scores, I’ll assign default values to the ranks I.e your highest rank will have more points than your lowest ranked album

I'm on the same page as Divaman. While in theory the points system could help lesser-known albums I can't help but feel the opposite will happen and more popular albums will just snuff others out even more.

I'm going to do it the way everyone else is this year, but thanks for the option macman. I'm just saying that for the future, I prefer the straight ranking system. (In my case, it won't make that much of a difference anyway, as I'm pretty sure only two of the albums I'm including in my Top Ten will have much chance to be included in the site's Top 50).
