Do you actually think that the winner is going to have the slightest effect on the sound of anything on the album?
This is just a way to get people excited and get some good PR. Winning would be awesome if you like the band, but only because you get to fly to LA and sit in on a recording session, not because you would get to actually do anything.

Well, COE isnt creative at all, but i find it their most enjoyable release. It's their most solid imo. Waking the Fallen would've been their best if it didnt have some filler ish tracks like "Radiant Eclipse" and even "IWSYT pt2" WTF does however have A7X's two best songs, Chapter Four and SEcond HEartbeat though, COE i just feel to be a better overall album, and Shadows' voice doesnt bother me all that much tbh
Still, Im not gonna join cuz ive basically grown off A7X a lot since i got into them a whie back, but i can still respect and enjoy them.

What I would do is reconcile their two competing faces. i) They used to be good and make fun, fast, and melodic metalcore. ii) They now suck and do weird hard rock/alt rock stuff.
I would maintain the integrity of their old material while indulging their need to "expand" to other wack genres that are more radio friendly.

I wouldnt do this. Although I consider Waking the Fallen a completely classic album, Im almost positive that this new one is headed in a more mainstream direction to supplement their newfound popularity. I have a feeling that I would tell them to write 12 new songs.

i agree with Bfhurricane... i love a7x, they are my favorite band. but waking the fallen was a top notch album and they will never make anything to top it. i still like CoE but he's right, more than likely its going to be another mainstream album. i really hope not though.

Sounding the Seventh Trumpet was their best. It all went downhill as far as I'm concerned. "Second Heartbeat" is also one of their only songs I'll still listen to.

If you think about it though, COE really wasn't all that mainstream with the exception of the singles that they put out for the album. Most 10 year old girls wouldnt listen to 6 minute+ tracks i doubt, and most of the tracks were that long on the album, i never viewed the album mainstream as a whole. They did say that they werent going to make a mainstream effort, they're going for the complete opposite. Im hoping this doesnt end up being like whaty Trivium said abut "The Crusade" though.

StST was a little bit better than WtF, which was far better than CoE.
It's funny. I almost never can listen to music with a significant amount of screaming in it, but I love their first two albums and don't like CoE that much.

I have loved Avenged since way back, when they toured in Halifax in Nova Scotia back in 2000 or 2001...I cant remember now. CoE was a disappointment compared to what I had been expecting, but it was a decent album (just decent though). Their live show a lot changed since they got more popular....and they did do a song with *shudders* Good Charlotte....
I just hope that there is some shred of WtF in the new album......

Waking the Fallen is the best metalcore album ever. City of Evil was extremely enjoyable, but their MTV hits did nothing but set the stage for their next album to help rake in the $.
And yeah, Second Heartbeat is amazing.

As an after thought to the whole mainstream debate on the new a7x album, Shadows said in an interview that the songs would be, "gritter and longer" which hopefully falls along the lines of the songs being heavier and 6-7 minutes a piece. If they somehow managed to put of the heavier aspects of waking the fallen in the album, along with some of CoE's guitar harmonies, it could be a really good album in my opinion.

there was absolutely nothing mainstream about the album
