Ramones Vs. Dr Martens' 2007-05-29 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 7 Comments | Earlier this month we brought you news of a ticking time-bomb in the form of Dr. Martens' new UK advertising campaign.
The good docs are marketing their new range of shoes with endorsements from three key deceased punk rockers - Kurt Cobain, Joey Ramone, Joe Strummer- and Sid Vicious. Courtney Love denied any involvement in Cobain's appearance, and now the family of the former Ramones singer have voiced their disapproval: "Obviously, we are in the same position as Courtney Love, as well as the Estates of the others depicted [in the ad]," said Mickey Leigh.
"We were never consulted about this ad. We were never asked for permission to use Joey's image, or paid for the use of it. As executor of my brother's estate I never would have approved this ad as Joey never wore these shoes. And, not that my brother was terribly religious, but the fact that he was Jewish, and this ad is not exactly Kosher, makes it that much more inappropriate, inconsiderate and contemptible."

Disgraceful.
| | | Yeah, these ads aren't going to last long.
Props for leaving Sid Vicious out of the category of punk rockers, lol
| | | If the Ramones battled Dr. Martens, Dr. Martens would win.
| | | Not neccesarily.
| | | Yeah, Vicious was a complete joke. Cobain fits better than vicious but doesn't really fit the punk motif.
| | | None of these "rockers" had any real merit except Strummer and MAYBE Ramone.
| | | than your idea of merit is all wrong.
You can use the image of anyone dead without thier permission Ive been told, its only the owner of the photographs you have to pay.
So this is probably Steve Gullick's fault. He worked with all of them.
