Chance the Rapper drops Surf

2015-05-29 by Jordan M. EMERITUS | 27 Comments
Chance the Rapper has finally released his collaboration with Donnie Trumpet and the Social Experiment, Surf. Hyped throughout most of 2014, the record is supposedly not the follow-up to the much acclaimed Acid Rap, with Chance admitting the record is more the work of Donnie Trumpet than himself.

Surf is available to download for free in the US right now on iTunes.

Yeah it blows - everybody is parading it as Chance's new stuff. I like the collective a lot, but I still think "Sunday Candy" was the best track on the album.

the news title is perfect; more people will click on a chance drops surf article than a donnie drops surf article.

when they dl it they'll see that it's more donnie than chance, but this title gets them in the door. better publicity for donnie/the album

@Drumsalot: How does his voice make him an artist not worth checking out?

uh... it makes his vocals unappealing? What sort of silly question even is that?

So what? Even if his vocals are unappealing, his music may still be worth checking out. I don't see the point.

yeah too bad hip hop is mostly a vocal-based genre.

I love the positive vibe they're going with. Too much art out there now is so pretentiously cynical and pointlessly cold that the Social Experiment is definitely a breath of fresh air.

@zary: I thought it was lyrics and beat-based? Sorry?

this album sounded like a mess to me. Sunday Candy was the only song I loved all the way through

the beat exists to facilitate the vocals, which deliver the lyrics. Are you being serious? Rappers rap, rap music is about rapping. If rappers have annoying voices their rapping will probably suffer, no matter how the rest of the music is. Bad vocalists in rock bands bring the music down just as much as annoying rappers bring rap down.

Okay, sorry, apparently I misunderstood hip-hop or something. What the fuck. I never cared about vocals in my entire life, except if they are extremely commendable. Why are you telling me how to perceive music? If everything else is perfectly acceptable and good, I couldn't give less a shit about the sound of a rapper.
