Mars Volta Demos Revealed

2013-08-17 by PostMesmeric | 47 Comments
The Mars Volta may be dissolved, but that doesn't mean that everything the band had in them has seen the light of day.

The Mars Volta fan forum thecomatorium.com unearthed a collection of 15 unreleased tracks from The Mars Volta's catalog, posting a link to the collection for download on Mediafire. Former Mars Volta vocalist Cedric Bixler-Zavala confirmed the collection's legitimacy on his Twitter page with the following tweet:

"The recent TMV leaks are from a session we did w/ @davidguetta during our residency at Ibiza hot spot RAMROD."

Bixler-Zavala's penchant for goofy and misleading tweets got briefly ignored by many media outlets, who reported the tweet as a rumor of a collaboration with EDM artist David Guetta which never came to fruition. However, the rumor was proven false by Bixler-Zavala in a later, much less serious tweet.

"@davidguetta will u quantize my balls w your Eurocentric beats? We could be something fierce babe mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmTHeriously."

The 15 tracks are mostly unfinished instrumentals, outtakes and demo recordings. The collection is available for free download at Mediafire:

Listening to K49 (at least, that's what it was labeled as) right now, and it is really good. Definitely going to jam this for a few days.

anyone have any track orders or anything that they are using? I took 7 of the songs that I thought could work decently together and clipped ends in some places to get them to transition a little better and put them in an order that had at least some sort of cohesiveness to it. Increased my enjoyment a little bit that way. Good stuff in there.

I looked at this whole unearthing as a DIY compilation album, I gave it a name, a cover I preferred, and named the songs myself.

Worry not, this is not the end of The Mars Volta. And if I have to drag all involved parties around the globe and into the same room myself. They are like nothing before and nothing that is yet to come. You cannot screw with magic, you know!

It feels like this is soothing my wounds while ripping them open all over again.
The emotions purveyed by music and thus bands are similar to romantic relationships. You feel pretty empty after a band you liked dissolved - however temporarily that may be.

Half expecting this thread to say it's a preorder of 10 discs, 7 LPs, sticks blah, blah, at the perfectly reasonable price of £600.

If you care about the band and the
individuals who make it, support my
initiative to get the Wikipedia
article to refer to them as being on
a break or on hiatus here:

I really, really, really do not want to intrude in persons' privacy, however since this was made available publicly anyway and only two of four persons are clearly identifiable – which is perhaps a discussion for another day – I think you should see this:
