I know Avenged Sevenfold has changed their music a ton over the past three albums, City of Evil marked that change. But honestly, I don't think that was a bad album. Sure it's not what they were before but they're not that bad... The s/t album that came out wasn't my favorite by any means, it had some good things about it but was the weakest release so far.. Nightmare was ok, I thought it was good for what it was.. I just find it funny that the comments, people are already writing this off and saying they'll rate it a 1 when they haven't even heard it yet.. So you may not like it, but I think it's a bit dickish to just give it a bad review before giving it a listen.

To be honest it is natural to expect a thing to suck or to be good when your opinion over something is one of those. A lot of people here despise Avenged Sevenfold's music, so they expect the album to be bad. Something that is true however, is that if some of their songs were made by bands with a bigger legacy (Judas Priest, Pantera, Iron Maiden) or were older, the reception would be higher.

DEAR GOD, would you DEMONS stop with the CRITICAL ACCLAIM of the album cover? If you don't like it, TURN THE OTHER WAY. This is the ART OF SUBCONSCIOUS ILLUSION! You all might think it's ALMOST EASY, but this GIRL I KNOW loves it UNTIL THE END.

Can't judge a book by the cover and all, but it can also be difficult to take a band seriously based on presentation. Especially when their last album's art was as lavishly illustrated as Nightmare (yes, that was a pretty damn good cover). To go back to cartoonish territory with the cheese level turned to 11 is asking for trouble.

Again, still interested in seeing how this album turns out but I just wish they put a little more effort into the presentation.

The album art is pretty shockingly badly drawn, and I'm not a big fan of the album title either, for that matter. Hope the album's ok; there's always the chance that the new drummer will spice things up. They peaked very hard at City of Evil and have been trailing down since.
