Streetlight Manifesto Update

2013-01-15 by pmmets07 | 37 Comments
Streetlight Manifesto has given an update regarding the status of their forthcoming album, The Hands That Thieve. According to a statement from the band, the album is done being mastered, but still has not been given an official release date. To make up for the album's delayed release, the band will include a free live EP with all album pre-orders placed at the RISC Store website. The live CD includes professionally recorded songs from last year's Hands That Thieve Tour.

Additionally, the band has released two, one-minute song clips taken from the new album, that can be streamed alongside the full article. Check them out here:

I don't understand, it's finished being mastered but they still can't give us a ballpark release date? Does anyone know why that is?

"The label decides the release date dude

but what's the point in holding off if the product is ready to go? some weird marketing strategy or something?

ps the song clips are really awesome, the end of the first one is classic streetlight

They're currently in a major feud with Victory who don't promote the band in any way and seem to hate them, yet still demand two more albums even though Streetlight thought 99 Songs would count as 1 so that this could be their last release on the shit label but they're acting like corporate douches, it sucks basically

Clips are pretty standard fare for Streetlight, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

It's a marketing strategy I'm pretty sure. Now they gotta get people hyped for it (even though people have been for a while).

Band is meh anyways.

Victory should get nuked when labels like Hydra Head are dying. Fuck Victory.

Hopefully soon. Even without Victory, given that it's only just been mastered, you have to consider how long it takes to press all of the physical copies, including the pre-orders.

Anata (death metal band) have had an album done since 2008 and haven't been able to release it. Record labels suck

yeah they apparently hate their label. i'd bet they'll do a kickstarter for their next album. they seem like the kind of people who'll terminate a contract they don't like, and do so with a bang.

as for the clips, first one is great, second one is alright.

They should just do what Death Grips did and get rid of their label. People would still buy their music.

TheSadLittleDinosaur - I'm sure they're really anxious to get rid of the label that's hovering over them, but I'm sure it'd be a breach of contract somewhere and I doubt Streetlight has the kind of money to try and pay that off. Yeah, they're big in the ska community with a devote fanbase, but ska in general is a very small fanbase in comparison to bigger rock/pop bands.

They played 2-3 new songs when I saw them in Nov, they were pretty kick ass. Not sure what one title of a song was, but it had the sickest barry-sax hook that carried the song and more

actually I believe their contract expires after this album

I think I remember them mentioning that Victory doesn't want to count 99 Songs as part of their record obligations and wants two more records

"I think I remember them mentioning that Victory doesn't want to count 99 Songs as part of their record obligations and wants two more records"

I think a lawyer could solve that for them.

"So, uhh, we know you made an album, but we don't want to count it towards your recording contract."

"Why and on what grounds?"

"Uhh... well... you know..."

God so pumped for this album. But fucking Victory, this is why bands like BtMI! exist. Well, existed. Sucks when a band can't really make money with or without a contract.

@schizo, I heard those songs in November as well. They're pretty fucking baller. I'd say those two or three were much more of a tease than these samples, which didn't speak to me too much. I'm sure the full versions will be much better.

Sounds like Streetlight. Teasers haven't shown me anything special but they're just snippets. Album I'll believe when I see. These guys are notorious for their albums being late.
