it is just the punk and hardcore 2012 though. Not all around 2012.

Still, so much hipster wank will fill the general 2012 albums of the year.

Every bogan tradie dickbag gets excited about Parkway Drive, and they all listen to short fast loud.

This list just appeals to the hardcore section of the trend-hopping demographic of Australian radio listeners, instead of the regular "alternative" section of trend-hoppers. I do not very much like Triple J and their monopoly over so-called independent music in Australia right now.

100 percent agreeance with you liledman. TripleJ is hand picking what becomes popular in Australia at the moment, with their monopoly of pretty much unlimited music in the unearthed world.

Douglas

Yeah, but the whole aura that is triple j currently is just disgusting.

They basically own all unsigned Australian bands music through their unearthed program - and the way
they utilize it is appalling.

Yeah list is probably as expected. A lot of poor-average Australian metalcore interspersed with a few good albums. I was stoked that The Smith Street Band got so high though.
I dont really like Triple J apart from a couple of presenters but short.fast.loud is normally ok as Stu Harvey has great taste. The problem is that the popularity of all the average metalcore bands dictates that he has to play it as its really the only punk/hardcore show of note on Australian radio.

Macros

And the exposure that short.fast.loud has given good Australian bands like Smith Street, Anchors, Milhouse etc is unparalleled. So that sort of makes up for the garbage that needs to be played to satisfy the majority of the listeners.

Yeah Dougie it is not particularly nice to see. I know a few of my friends have gotten too caught up in playing their games. One guy got a fair bit of attention pretty quickly for some tracks on unearthed, and he actually got to the point of having a meeting/interview with Triple J people, and they flat out told him that they wanted more of this song, not that new song, but more in this style, etc. If that is what the independent artists of Australia have to do to get recognition, then it's a severe compromise.

And if I see one more of my friends on FB posting "We only need x amount of plays on unearthed to reach this meaningless number!" I will vomit.

Although one of my friends' bands is doing quite well out of them, so I guess if you fit the Triple J mould then make the most of it.

Scary isn't it? I heard down the grape vine that a couple of years ago, Kingsmill forced Gotye to stay out of his side project band and only be Gotye, or otherwise triple j wouldn't play his music anymore.

Worked out for him in the end I guess, but still.

I still strongly support triple j, and I don't think they've changed much in who they pander to since their conception. If anything they're much broader than ever before. Shows like this never existed. Seriously, a POPULAR hardcore/punk show? That's a huge step. And sure, a lot of this list shitty scenecore but there's more of the other stuff than if Stu Harvey wasn't doing his damnedest to introduce scene kids to good shit
