The Mars Volta enter Hiatus

2012-11-12 by Youtellme | 104 Comments
Puerto Rican guitarist from the nu-prog rockers The Mars Volta, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, has confirmed that the 6-part group have officially entered in a hiatus, stating that he does not know whether or not the group will reunite, but that it is not something to worry the mind.

"I don’t know [if the band will reunite], and I'm not insecure enough to have to ask myself that. It’s like, we've done that for ten years, eleven years. Now we’re all doing different things, and everything that we’re doing informs how we express ourselves, and so if that happens then it happens and if it doesn't it doesn't."

The spastic guitarist has also confirmed a brand new project along side the drummer from the aforementioned group, Deantoni Parks, titled "Bosnian Rainbows", from which an album is expected to be released next year.

In addition to that, charismatic lead vocalist, Cedric Bixler-Zavala, is currently working on a solo project, which is also expected to be released next year.

that'd be indescribably rad, but i think they've made pretty clear in the past that they have no intentions of doing that. I think Omar called ATD-I an old, nostalgic t-shirt that doesn't fit anymore or something like that haha

This sucks, but I sensed it coming since they barely promoted Noctourniquet with only a European Tour. Also, Omar was on tour with his group this autumn. Hopefully they'll return as soon as possible.

This is pretty terrible news, this is one of my favourite bands. I've been dying to hear them return to their 10-minute epic prog rock style of writing, but hopefully this hiatus may be a short one.

They need to end with a grand finale, and as okay as Noctourniquet may have been, that wasn't it.

It's about time. Ever since FTM everything has been so disappointing with the exception of Bedlam, which in context feels like the band trying really hard to focus and do something great again. It was good but it still couldn't come close to their 2 classics.

It feels to me like the group is completely out of steam, and have been for awhile. It's time to hang it up. I still like the group and all, but I don't even really get excited for a new release at this point. Hopefully the new projects can bring out the talent that the members of this band clearly have.
