Timberlake Revamps Myspace

2012-09-27 by andcas | 65 Comments
The once reigning powerhouse in social networking, Myspace, is being granted new life by singer turned actor Justin Timberlake. In 2011, he became an investor in the project to pull the site from the depths of obscurity that seemingly took a plunge overnight.

The astonishing rise in popularity of Facebook and Twitter leveled its massive outlet that promoted endless bands to the height of stardom. In a two-minute teaser, the 2.0 version offers a glimpse into what kind of features participants can expect to receive.

The interface is described as Facebook-meets-Instagramthat’s extremely music oriented in an attempt to revive the glory days. In a quote from one of the owners, it’s revealed that strong emphasis will be placed on artists with fans and unknowns plugged.

The beta function that sounds the most interesting is a trending tab that lets you search performances, profiles, and magazine articles. In the sites easy drag-and-drop mix, with heavy imagery, it'll be a much simpler method to connect to similar interests online.

The demo will also contain a way to conveniently snatch music on other profiles and add to your queue the info of artist's tastes. In luring interest, there’s a top fan area where you can check location area, gender percent, age average, and most influential of followers.

The promised increase in quality of integration will give chances to struggling musicians by being profiled on their favorite bands page. It’s unclear when the site will see it's official launch but Timberlake and company remain confident that it’ll be an Internet game changer.

Considering how trends die on the internet, Myspace would deserve respect if it manages to become popular again, the only thing keeping it alive were bands.

I'll never forget when MySpace had a Secret Show in my town of Albuquerque, and it was Mastodon during their Crack The Skye tour. Was lucky enough to go with my brother, and it was a blast. Always thought it was rad that they would promote a free show for MySpace users. Music always seemed to come first with MySpace.

I like that they're putting an emphasis on music, since that's all I used myspace for anyway.

To succeed ti just needs to draw the people back, and since you can sign in via FB I hope this becomes the case.

Not saying I'm going to reactivate though, depends on where the people I network with for gigs go.

I mean, this isn't even Myspace anymore. Timberlake's resurrecting the website's dated skeleton and transforming it into something entirely new, which is admirable.

However, in terms of originality it leaves much to be desired. The new layout looks like a Pinterest that isn't just meant for your girlfriend, and the music services seem a little unnecessary considering Spotify, Pandora, etc. on the rise.

That layout's lovely though.

1 good thing about this is that when a blog posts a link to a band's myspace page I won't just skip out on checking them out because myspace is so beyond ghetto. I'll be sure to check it out.

What finesse Kate Bush has. Her vocal dexterity is truly comparable to none; her pure singing, akin to her graceful dance, gliding so effortlessly like a skater on ice. This demonstration of her beautiful dancing, all thanks to Lindsay Kemp of course, really completes the ultimate message so many of her songs convey; she is so full of ardor, and she must show it, whatever the circumstance, whoever this 'stranger' she mentions really is. Oh! The hurt done from this person who deprived her of love.
