Finch broke up

2006-02-21 by Damrod EMERITUS | 23 Comments
After 5 years San Diego-based band Finch broke up. Though the official homepage speaks of taking a break for undetermined time, the wording suggests that there will be no new material from Finch in the near or far future.

The debut "What it is to burn" was very popular among Pop-Punk/Pop-core fans, last years "Say Hello to Sunshine" changed the sound of the band though.

Their last album seemed very uninspired to me. I'm not very surprised.

Didn't think they would last that long with an album like Say Hello To Sunshine. However I would be interested to see where their singer guy does after finch.

What a shocker. I'm sad, they are my musical inspiration. Hopefully Nate Barcalow (vocals) will gt in a new band. He has an incredible screaming voice. THe whole band was just awesome to me though I really liked the whole band and wish the best for all of them. This Message Edited On 03.07.06

I loved their debut album, but Say Hello to Sunshine was a disappointment for me. I guess it was for the band too?

When I saw them live last fall. They seemed very uninspired and almost bored with their music. Like they didn't even want to be playing. Not suprising that they broke up.

I guess it's up to me to stand up for Say Hello To Sunshine then... I thought it was an excellent album, and a brave move for the band to step away from an already-established fanbase to make the music they wanted to make.

Yeah, so the scener kids didn't like it much, as it was something different, and less 'sing-along' than WIITB, but it certainly isn't anywhere near as bad as it's been made out in this news post.

too bad, i really liked finch, this is almost as bad to me as the blink hiatus. although i like WIITB better than SHTS, i still really like that album too. Hopefully they can work things out and get together again.

I didn't really like Say Hello To Sunshine... But, What It Is To Burn was a better album compared to it's recent one. If I was given a choice of the 2, it's WIITB for me.. It sucks though that they broke up, but hey, uninspired playing isn't really good either, it just ends up getting worse.

This sucks, Finch was my favorite band and still is. I personally think SHTS isn't really as bad as these posts say it is I loved that album. WIITB disappointed me a little but I loved it for the most part. WIITB is my absolute favorite song. I really hope they either get back together or Nate Barcalow(Finch vocalist for those of you who don't know his name) starts a new band.

I agree with everything Daemonium said. They are, and always have been, my favorite band. What It Is To Burn is the most amazing song and album ever made, in my opinion, and I still listen to it constantly (am right now). I loved both albums, and admired them for having the courage to change their sound on Say Hello To Sunshine. If Nate doesn't do something after this I'll probably kill myself.
