Sounds like something I'll get.
| |
wow I love pretentious bands
| |
An EP of interviews and "unused instrumental demos"
What?
| |
To me, it sounds like it'll be similar to the Here Hear EP's, but in a different direction.
| |
No, Hear Here contained poetry. This sounds stupid.
| |
Good cause bad concept.
| |
will consist of interviews with frontman Jordan Dreyer about the themes and songwriting of 2011's 'Wildlife', conducted during the recording sessions of the album backed by unused instrumental demo's from the band.
what in the actual fuck?
| |
The last time someone did something this shitty and pretentious and disguised it's purpose with charity, the Heat ended up with Lebron
| |
what in the actual fuck? [2]
| |
This sounds cool.
| |
ya'll are ridiculous. It's not like this is a legitimate release or EP, more just like a compilation of unreleased interviews/demos. There's nothing really pretentious or awful about that. It's just a small thing to do "for the fans" that goes to a good cause.
I mean I don't even really listen to them often but damn.
| |
Their bassist sways back and forth like he's in a chick metal band.
| |
Yea gabe, but this is the kinda thing you tack onto a pre-order. It's kinda lame that it's released stand alone.
| |
i don't know what to think about this
| |
The only way this would be pretentious is if their lyrical themes were shallow, and they attempted to add depth that wasn't there. They aren't, and call for further explanation. Any fan of the band would be interested in listening to this, so I don't see the harm in releasing it.
| |
i just don't think it's an ep if it's just interviews...
| |
I'd rather just give to the charity, which is awesome by the way.
| |
Might get this!
| |
As if the Hear Here EPs didnt suck enough balls...
| |
Laziest charity release ever though. Could have at least recorded some new songs bloody hell.
| |
sounds more like some b-sides that weren't complete.
they should call it like it is.
still like the band, aside from the christianity references. haters gonna hate.
| |
Sounds like the most retarded thing i've ever heard. God I hate this band.
| |
Rosa Parks is a bitch.
Just saying.
| |
this sounds so lame.
| |
"wildlife sucks" lol opinions
| |
It's worth a listen, though I don't get the concept of the whole thing...
| |
"The only way this would be pretentious is if their lyrical themes were shallow, and they attempted to add depth that wasn't there. They aren't, and call for further explanation. Any fan of the band would be interested in listening to this, so I don't see the harm in releasing it."
Pretentious talking about pretense? Meta-pretentious.
| |
^They could just release that information for free like every other band in the world.
| |
Misleading news title, and by misleading I mean wrong. This is not an EP. They never called it an EP, and it doesn't make
sense to call it an EP. It's mostly just commentary.
That being said, I still plan to get my hands on this, especially since it's for a good cause. Love this album and love these
guys.
| |
Band puts a little extra work into some interviews in order to release it entirely for charity.
Sputnik calls it pretentious.
| |
if you think it's dumb then don't buy it. simple.
| |
might b cool.
i'd rather have Here Hear IV but this'll probably be enjoyable.
| |
"if you think it's dumb then don't buy it. simple."
Not a fuckin' problem, trust me.
| |
It's really not that pretentious considering Dreyer's diction is pretty poetic within itself. And why release it for free when you can donate to a cause? I don't see anything wrong with this. Sounds like a much easier listen than the Here Hear series.
| |
I mean, I love samples, particularly those that are just someone speaking- I feel like it adds to the weight of a song (i.e. Sleep by GY!BE etc...).
But interviews from the band's frontman? That sounds kind of... eh. I love the way the guy speaks though, so maybe it'll be cool. I'm not gonna count it out yet.
| |
This band is one big weak ass metaphor.
| |
i dont think anyone has a problem with la dispute for their charity thing. Its the whole painfully self-aware and pretensious bullshit on some b-sides. I mean they couldnt just release b-sides without lame commentary????
| |
I understand this is for a good cause blah blah blah, but its a bunch of fucking interviews and instrumentals that they're actually gonna sell. Why wouldn't they record at least one song for this so more people will buy it and help out the cause. Also, never could understand they insane amounts of love or hate for this band. They're decent, but let's be serious, they aren't doing anything mewithoutyou hasn't already done well before they even existed.
| |
^yeah except Wildlife is better than anything mwY has ever released.
| |
Citycop will eclipse LaD in no time.
| |
^ I'd be ok with that.
| |
Wildlife did not suck, if it did, i'd give it to you. and this sounds cool as hell. just because its not new music, you don't have to bitch about it. Unreleased interviews backed up by unused music by La Dispute is enough to satisfy this guy
| |
I just don't understand the criticism here. This is one thing of many that they put together for a charity package to sell to fans that would be interested in some extra stuff.
| |
little late on the april fools joke la dispute?
| |
There's no reason to get straight up angry over this, but it's hardly logical or justifiable other than the fact that it's for charity. And whoever said wildlife is better than anything mwy has done is ridiculous because opinions are like assholes(think you know the rest) There's just really no arguing that these guys are somewhat of a mwy clone, i mean even down to the vocals. I'm not really a huge fan of either, but I'm just callin' it like I see it.
| |
The mewithoutYou comparison barely makes sense at all and it's really annoying when anyone brings it up.
| |
Band sucks big time
| |
Voice irks the crap out of me
| |
still like the band, aside from the christianity references. haters gonna hate.
what the fuck are you talking about
| |
saw them last night, they fucking killed it.
| |
"Citycop will eclipse LaD in no time."
lol yea sputnik hype REALLY makes bands' careers.
| |
"Citycop will eclipse LaD in no time."
They already did, in my honest opinion. Seasons was amazing.
| |
was it
| |
fag band
| |
"saw them last night"
sorry to hear that.
| |
yeah he should've been watching the bruins game instead
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
| |
yo we're the bruins and we're the only hockey team to ever lose to a black guy
feels good man
| |
"yeah he should've been watching the bruins game instead"
Way to just twist my heart around like I don't have feelings you insensitive bastard.
| |
looooooooooooooooooooooool
| |
"yo we're the bruins and we're the only hockey team to ever lose to a black guy"
Haven't done my research but I highly doubt that's true. I'm sure one of the other 3 have won games before.
| |
Let's be serious, if you don't hear at least some MWY influence, then you're lying to yourself. Listen to a song like January 1979 then listen to Wildlife, and if you don't hear it then you just don't want to.
| |
Yeah man, that Bruins joke was a real low blow. At least we got the cup last year, no other team can say that.
| |
well no shit one team wins the cup per year
| |
You seem like you got a chip on your shoulder, you a leafs or oilers fan or some shit?
| |
don't really follow hockey, watch the wings in the playoffs to fit in and drink beer
| |
the title of this article is ridiculously bad. that being said, this "ep" is actually more interesting than i thought it would be. i never realized harder harmonies was about suicide.
| |
someguest, is vancouver your favorite la dispute release? just wondering because you have it as your avatar.
| |
Why are you even on this message board if your hating on the band. Somewhere and Wildlife were really good albums and they were awesome live. The description of the article is written pretty badly though.
| |
why are you all so retarded sometimes?
| |
"Why are you even on this message board if your hating on the band."
This isn't youtube.
| |
"Sounds like the most retarded thing i've ever heard. God I hate this band."
You had the effort to click on the link and hate on it lol Compared to other shitty scene post-hardcore bands you think la dispute is bad? Instrumental and lyrically wise their sound and people have different opinions on jordan's voice but I like it, it shows emotion. I rather listen to that studio/live wise than listen to a band that has screams that sound like crap live.
| |
gayness
| |
worst band ever
| |
Your favorite bands are Fall Out Boy and All Time Low LOL
| |
no, La Dispute are just really mediocre
| |
gayest band ever fuck them in the ass
| |
I disagree, there's way worseeee bands than this. They do appeal to a younger audience though which I see at their shows. But not to the 14 year old scene kids who like crappy breakdowns and simple guitar riffs which La Dispute doesn't symbolize at all. It's all opinion though.
| |
Robots.
| |
@Sloppy, you were certainly able to draw a lot of conclusions from one comment. Numerous people have admitted to me that they think this band sounds like shit but they like it because it's emotional. Sorry, but I don't dismiss the sound of a band for it's content. I mean this is supposed to be music right? If I wanted to hear someone cry while they read a poem then yeah, i'll listen to this band but I don't see that happening any time soon.
| |
But numerous people also said this band is good. So are you pretty much generalizing this whole genre of music and saying that all of these bands that have similar vocals are bad? Have you ever listened to pianos become the teeth, defeater, or touche amore? Also very good bands in this category of music. If you look up the lyrics or go to a show it might change your mind. I thought the same way at one point but I like the band alot now and also other bands in the genre.
| |
Kill stop hating on people with talent. Not every band is gonna be as bad as Rush
| |
I get that they want to do something "creative" with the B-sides but this is fucking stupid.
| |
@Dude melodic hardcore is my favorite genre. Verse, Departures, Counterparts, MLIW, More Than Life, and Troubled Coast are some of my favorite bands. I don't like Touche Amore, PBTT are good, and Defeater are okay. A little overrated imo but still pretty good. This band is boring and whiny. You are certainly entitled to your opinion but just realize that I am as well.
| |
This ep is fucking pointless and I really enjoy this band.
| |
Yeah, because charity is so pointless.
| |
i'll be interested to hear the story behind some of the songs tbh
| |
Yeah, because charity is so pointless.
Not the charity portion at all.
| |
redefining pretension
| |
someguest, is vancouver your favorite la dispute release? just wondering because you have it as your avatar.
it's good and I'm from michigan so
| |
This band is incredible. just sayin'
| |
cover is from edward benz. i bet.
love this band.
| |
nvm i'm an idiot.
| |
lol this band
| |
Great band, but this sounds dumb.
| |
sounds useless
| |
whiny bitches
| |
yeah charity. what bullshit.
| |
Probably going to swipe this and feel bad and donate to the charity later on, I'll listen to it for what it is and for the fact that I liked Dreyer's voice in the Here Hear series. Idg why everyone here is getting their panties in a bunch when half you probably wouldn't have paid for it initially anyways even if it was a legitimate ep.
| |
this was actually really insightful and going back and listening to wildlife the lyrics mean a lot more having listened to this. i wish the title of this article wasn't so poorly written because obviously if you tease a new ep and you're given an interview people are gonna be pissed. i was. but if you take conversations for what it is (not an ep) then i think some of you guys may up enjoying it. obviously you'd have to be a pretty big la dispute fan to be able to endure close to an hour and a half or jordan's ramblings. but for super-fans like me and i'm sure others on this site (aids) and especialy those fans from michigan (someguest) i'd definitely recommend this - not as an ep, but as a companion piece to wildlife.
| |
I hate it. Well the talking was nice, but the background music was kinda horrible.
| |
And I continue to lose more and more faith in Sputnik because the user base just gets more and more retarded.
This thread is idiotic.
| |
thanks for getting me excited for a new EP, which "Conversations" is not
ps fuck everybody, this thread is terrible
| |
I have yet to listen to Wildlife
| |
Finally got around to this and it's awful. Respect for donating to charity, but awful.
| |
it's just an interview, how can it be awful?
| |
No one is forcing you to get it, stupid twats.
| |
wow I love pretentious bands
| |
