St. Patty's Day: Murphys Ready

2006-12-11 by Jom | 6 Comments
Boston's Dropkick Murphys won't be playing a behemoth five-show romp this year for St. Patrick's Day, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're going to hold back on their holiday festivities. This year, they're going to be ditching rock clubs to headline its first-ever hometown arena show in addition to a single club date.

The band's penciled in to play March 16 at Boston's Avalon Ballroom, then an afternoon appearance at Boston University's Agganis Arena on St. Patrick's Day on March 17.

"We want to say at least we got to do it once," Dropkick Murphys bassist Ken Casey said of the band's arena-rock plans.

The Dropkick Murphys are also striving for the addition of a 21-and-over show to their already-busy plans to round out St. Patrick's Day's nighttime festivities. In Boston, to boot [Watch The Boondock Saints if you haven't already. -Jom]!

While no definite plans have been revealed, the band hinted that announcements will be made through its official website and tickets will be offered first to its online fan base rather than the public at large.

The band hasn't yet revealed plans to deliver a follow-up to 2005's The Warrior's Code.

I realy want to see these guys live, but Boston's a ways away...I'll see them if they come closer.

I saw them once, and they were awful. I like their music, but it was mixed terribly and they didn't play that well. I wouldn't have minded about the mixing quality, but the support band had very good sound, which was a little weird/annoying.This Message Edited On 12.11.06

I have Sing Loud, Sing Proud and I rather enjoy it. But not as much as I enjoy Boondock Saints. I love that movie.

Quite easily the best live act I've seen in all my days; arena and club wise.
