Human Abstract cover Beethoven

2012-02-11 by Zorak | 50 Comments
L.A. based progressive metalcore act, The Human Abstract, have covered all 3 movements of Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata". The cover can be purchased through iTunes for two dollars. The guitar parts were all recorded by Dean Herrera during sessions for "Digital Veil". Like the album, it was mixed and produced by Will Putney.

Didn't any of you guys read? This was all recorded during the Digital Veil sessions, they just didn't release it until now.

these guys were really really good at their instruments and aj is a classical guitarist so i imagine this is probably great

I am pleased to hear that AJ did not have anything to do with this. I think he would have interpreted the piece in a
much more musical fashion then was presented here. The opening section is a complete travesty as it is devoid of any
musical expression, dynamics or emotion. It sounds like someone programed the notes into a midi sequencer and ask
it to play it back at one volume and with a robotic tempo. Maybe Dean should have tried incorporating their classical
guitars in to this song, an instrument that is actually capable of producing some of these qualities that are essential to
classical music.

This is also some of the worst clipping I have ever heard on a commercial recording. I am completely surprised that
they asked for people to pay money for something that seems as if there was zero effort put in to the mixing of the
music. I loved digital veil and hope they continue on as a band, but this was something that needed a little more effort
put in to it, or should have been a free download at least.

On February 8th, 2012 guitarist Dean Herrera was asked on his Formspring page whether they would've broken up even if Travis hadn't left the band. Dean had replied stating that the band had never actually come together to decide the fate of the band. "as far as im concerned we aren’t broken up, that was Henry going out and spewing the inner workings of the band. We never actually came together and decided anything. I’m still real pissed at him for that. Sure we’re taking time, but that doesn’t mean anything other than that… Taking time.. As far as travis…. who knows… can’t say what might have happened."

Yeah, it isn't a 100 percent break-up.

Love that they finally put out this cover, but holy hell it really needs mixing/mastering. A lot of the instruments have the same tone as as on DV so I'm guessing it was recorded at the same time as the album, so it's really surprising to hear how disappointing the production is when compared to DV which had great production.

Yeah, I thought it was strange that nobody else in the band, or the band as a whole, made a statement about the break-up. I certainly hope to hear new material from them.

Really glad these guys might still be a band. They need to get Howard from KSE to do their vocals. It would be pretty epic.

Knowing classical guitar doesn't mean much in this case. Playing this song on guitar is more of a showcase of technical skill than anything else.
