YAY
| |
Nice! Gimme a song to chew on in the meantime!
| |
a song called in absentia?
| |
I thought that album title was a joke when I first heard it.
Artwork is ok. Octahedron's artwork was pretty amazing
| |
should be super duper if its nothing like octahedron and more like de-loused or frances or lets be honest anything they've ever made other than octahedron
| |
uhhkris don't stop dragging the lake
| |
only good song on that album FACT
| |
Fuck ye!
| |
yea octa was okay, their worst album by far. digging the song titles a lot
| |
lol do you know what they mean?
| |
nice
| |
nah but that's part of volta's charm.
| |
S-s-s-s-s-stoooooooooooooooooooooooooked.
| |
lol agreed. they're so progressive you need a dictionary. and sometimes even that doesn't suffice. tmv are beyond words and language and all that fickle shit.
| |
shit band
| |
^omg so edgy
| |
i mean they suck
| |
GIMME DAT CORPSE PLS.
| |
nice
| |
also, Octahedron was fucking awesome [2]
How can anyone disagree with "Cotopaxi", "Teflon", "Halo of Nembutals", "With Twilight As My Guide", and "Since We've Been Wrong"?
| |
easily
4/5 of those suck
| |
lol
| |
Out of curiosity, which one of the five tracks didn't suck for you mate?
| |
cotopaxi
but to be fair i don't remember any of the rest because cotopaxi is the only good song on that album
| |
I'm climbing Cotopaxi this summer
| |
best part about the new mars volta album?
FUCKIN' HANSON REVIEW
| |
this and meshuggah album on the same day? gonna be a good day
| |
Gonna suck so hard
| |
no u
| |
My expert detective skills tell me that this sounds like it might have a nighttime/sci-fi/spacey vibe
| |
cotopaxi
but to be fair i don't remember any of the rest because cotopaxi is the only good song on that album
lol
its funny cause cotopaxi was far and away the worst song on the album
fuckin stoked for this btw.
| |
Can't fuckin wait
| |
I'll have to make sure to buy lots of cough medicine to drink while I listen to it.
| |
also, Octahedron was fucking awesome [3]
| |
fucking m/
| |
The album art is pretty rad. The track names too.
I'm not sure what to expect from the music, though.
| |
who cares
at the drive-in is back together [2]
| |
i really, really hope this is amazing. that album cover screams "ICONIC".
also, Octahedron was fucking awesome [4]
| |
yea i was just thinking the same thing about the cover
| |
Octahedron was good. Those who think otherwise are just butthurt because they don't like change.
| |
Octahedron wasn't bad, but I'd love to hear a more energetic sound with some post-hardcore influence like a lot of De-Loused.
| |
they've been playing a lot of these songs live for a while now, so youtube away.
based on what i've heard, it seems like they're trying to add a post-punk element into their sound. i remember The Whip Hand, Aegis, and that Trinkets song being particularly promising.
| |

if that post punk thing is true, it should rule m/
| |
I'm really hoping this is more enjoyable for me than Octahedron was. Has that song being featured on MLB 12 been released? Also, I'm not impressed by the artwork for this album, which is surprising because I've enjoyed most of their discography's artwork.
| |
Don't bother looking anywhere else, those are the best quality.
| |
also, Octahedron was fucking awesome [whateverthecountisat]
fuck you kris
| |
Goddamn holy fucking shit, Cedric got a hair cut.
| |
This and Meshuggah both released on my birthday! Can't wait :D
| |
Hanson review
| |
lol The Mars Volta live
| |
octahedron was so much better than bedlam its not even funneh
| |
wrong
| |
psyched only because of fuckin DEANTONI PARKS on the kit
| |
i fucking love bedlam. to death.
| |
The live songs certainly feel more like the whole band wrote them. You can tell Omar didn't have a gun to their heads for this album. Lol.
| |
^^^
| |
Agreed. Not only do the feel more natural they have more of a groove and atmostsphere instead of crazy freak outs and barrages.
I'll say it now:
Deantoni > Theodore.
| |
lol amputechture is my 2nd favorite TMV album. (behind Frances.)
and yeah the new drummer is great. tbh im not at all surprised that Pridgen left after Octahedron. they didn't really let him do anything on that album.
| |
Octahedron was the worst Mars Volta album, but that's like calling Yanqui U.X.O. the worst Godspeed You! Black Emperor album.
As for the new album, I'm psyched. They haven't disappointed yet.
| |
Deantoni > Theodore.
:-O
| |
the kiosk in my temporal lobe is shaped like rosalyn carter
| |
Deantoni > Theodore.
hm, that's a big statement
| |
Deantoni had some good stuff with Omar (Old Money/other shit), but man, Theodore was a fucking beast on their first 3 records. Theodore all the way.
| |
i wont judge until i hear this record in full. but it's going to take a lot
| |
Octahedron really is just Cotopaxi and Teflon. And Bedlam in Goliath is so awesome it's unbeliveable - Goliath is pure craziness.
I really dig The Whip Hand, can't wait to hear the studio version.
| |
lol @ deantoni > theodore
| |
what is with this band's song names
| |
no one likes Pridgen? when i saw these guys live during their bedlam tour he slayed the shit outta that kit. i saw Deantoni during the amputechture tour and wasn't nearly as impressed.
| |
Octahedron really is just Cotopaxi and Teflon.
Lol, no.
| |
i fuckin love Teflon. Cotopaxi, meanwhile, basically just comes across as a bedlam b-side that they felt they had to release, despite the fact that it completely fucks up the flow/atmosphere on that album.
it's an alright song on its own merits, but it just doesn't really fit in on octahedron.
| |
I'll probably have a listen, but I really haven't enjoyed an album in it's entirety since Frances The Mute, which I think is better than De-Loused, after that they just stopped trying to make anything cohesive, Goliath was the one of the only songs I really enjoyed off their latest albums.
Can't wait to see what At The Drive-In is going to do if they make a new album.
| |
Maybe I'll get into these guys now
| |
never did enhoy at the drive in, dont know why. De-Loused is perfect and Frances is also outstanding in most parts, their most recent 3 are hit and miss-mostly miss. Im hoping this will be a return to form.
| |
umm... is that unsightly bubble-filled square thing supposed to be the album artwork? :/
regardless this is the best news ever. octahedron ruled, this will rule, etc etc
| |
deloused frances 5 bedlam 4.5 amp 4 octa 3.5
| |
is that unsightly bubble-filled square thing supposed to be the album artwork?
are you really not sure?
| |
Octahedron is the only album I like so hopefully more like that one
| |
hope this meets expectations
| |
*crosses fingers*
| |
hopefully this is good because that album artwork is stupid and they've only gotten worse since De-loused and i feel like they still have potential to write another great album
| |
i can't wait for this. no matter what sound they go with, I know i'll enjoy it
| |
they've only gotten worse since De-loused
So much derp itt.
| |
Damn, artwork looks amazing.
| |
Because the artwork for deloused was so good...
| |
artwork hah
| |
wait a second, are you telling me that this album cover doesn't have a 3 legged lady with an upside down face and beards on her nipples?
| |
Band wrote two great albums and that's about it.
| |
Should be good I hope.
| |
i really liked the artwork... still this should be amazing
| |
β’At the Drive-in are back together
we all know that they are just doing it for coachella and maybe a tour this year... how awesome would it be if they recorded again...
I like Mars Volta better though, when i heard their first ep i was like " this is what my ears have been trained for!"
| |
looking forward to this, but looking forward to new karnivool much more.
| |
i'm suspicious this will blow.
but i remain hopeful.
| |
well i read a while ago cedric said its gonna be stylistically stripped down and normal compared to their other stuff so its prolly gonna be boring and frustrating as theyve been recently with the last 3 records. Somehow hoping me reading that was a dream.
| |
they should just stop trying to be the most epic thing ever and make weird noisy punk again.
| |
Lol I can't really consider any TMV album weird noisy punk.....a term like that fits At the Drive In's former style a little more I think. Being the most epic thing ever isn't the problem really, nothing wrong with ambition, its the fact that everything since Frances has either been out of place and annoying or confusing and boring.
| |
the couple of new songs i've heard sound like a combination of atdi and tremulant/de-loused era tmv.
| |
um where did u hear these
| |
that sounds good, but the pattern is that all the good ideas will be buried under ridiculous amounts of cedric and omar jizz and will blow.
| |
yeah I can agree to that. Omar sometimes just drenches melodies and presents shit that just makes you annoyed, but when he hits, he fucking hits. I dont think he needs to be so over-the-top to make great stuff, I mean De-Loused was phenomenal and it was their most simple album melodically and instrumentally. The guitar work on that and Frances are so stellar
| |
I watched some of the live videos. Must say, I will probably like this record.
| |
I mean De-Loused was phenomenal and it was their most simple album melodically and instrumentally. The guitar work on that and Frances are so stellar this.
i'm not really head over heels for this band anymore, but i could probably dig a stripped-down album by them as long as that doesn't end up sounding anything like octa.
| |
um where did u hear these
hanson sent me a couple vids forever ago. wish i'd favorited them. i'm sure you can find them if you look hard enough. they're playing a festival and cedric has short hair (!).
| |
I feel that they could pull it off, but I just fucking bet that they won't if thats the direction on the new one. I just don't want a continuation of what they trice on octahedron, that was a disappointing album.
| |
obie trice real name no gimmicks
| |
Was waiting for this news to come to sputnik. Excited!
| |
happy birthday to me
| |
This is looking pretty interesting.
| |
I'm so pumped for this. Especially because Omar's solo works in between Octahedron to now has been AMAZING.
Plus At-The Drive In is back together. Meaning - more post hardcore influence. Fuck yes.
| |
Between new Mars Volta, the At the Drive-in reunion and all of those solo albums that he makes, I'm suspecting that Omar plays the guitar instead of breathes. As if he wasn't busy enough...
Either way, can't wait for Noctourniquet.
| |
fresh dopeness
| |
From Cedric:
"All I can say is that most of the music and artwork is the complete opposite of everything we have done.... We have stripped down much of what people are used to when it comes to us, so chances are a lot of you might not like it but I think a real Volta fan understands that change is good.β
| |
Above sounds exciting

I AM A LAND MINE
I AM A LAND MINE
DONTCHA STEP ON ME
DONTCHA STEP ON ME

fuck this is going to be terrible
| |
if they have jumped on this electronica bandwagon, i will delete their music from my life
| |
you know the mars volta sucks when they announce a dubstep album after bieber
| |
Looking forward to this release.
| |
no kidding

someguest is an idiot

oh god no
| |
ummm, idk about you guys but anything that points to this being nothing like their last few releases sounds like good news to me.
| |
chill the fuck out everyone. If it sucks, it sucks. Who fucking cares? AT THE DRIVE-IN IS BACK TOGETHER

stoked

de-loused is the mars volta's worst album (besides octahedron of course)...if you think different you don't really get what theyre going for. De-loused is safe and accessible, the easiest album to enjoy for a casual listener, the reason most people say it's their fave and tmv have just gotten worse over time. Frances, Amp (especially), and bedlam are daring, challenging the listener sometimes with what could be termed too much dissonance and chaos, but id rather they keep on their route, if you want accessible prog listen to 3. De-loused is tmv spoon-feeding listeners so as to prepare them for the leap to a more sonically expansive experience, to bridge the gap for fans of atd-i with a bit of familiarity...clearly, thats not the music they want to play anymore (and haven't since frances)...move on...
| |
the damn sample shit is gone
| |
nope de-loused is the best, amp was daring yet sucked, otahedron is boring and bedlam had some great shit some bad you lose
| |
