Van Halen Joins Van Halen

2006-11-02 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 13 Comments
David Lee Roth may think twice about whether to re-join Van Halen for their upcoming tour- they've just hired Eddie's son Wolfgang Van Halen as their new bass player.

"Wolfie," who's just fifteen years old, has performed with the band before on their ill-fated 2004 tour with Sammy Hagar. He replaces original bassist Michael Anthony, who wasn't asked to return after falling out with Eddie and his brother Alex during the same tour.

Roth hasn't performed with the band since leaving in 1985, though he did record two tracks with the band for their 1996 greatest hits album.

That would be sweet to play with a famous band as a 15 year old.

I would like to see them with Roth again. VH is about the only classic rock band I really like.

I wonder how long Roth will last with VH this time. Maybe a couple months.

That kid must be pretty good if VH is letting him roll with them.

If I were Eddie's son...

Nah, too much pressure to be awesome at guitar.

Good for Wolfie, he's pretty lucky.

This is a horrible move in my opinion. Mike Anthony was already established as the bassist, as well as having his trademark background vocals and personality.

Eddie is single handedly ruining this band IMHO.
wait greatest guitar player ALIVE and the son plays bass
What's wrong with bass? Just because it's got 2 less strings doesn't mean people can't be great on it.
EDIT: And Wolfie might also play standard guitar, he just only plays bass when he's with Van Halen. This Message Edited On 11.04.06

Apparently his son has sat in when Eddie was to drunk to finish a show before...so he's probably pretty good.
