After not listening to the songs of Teargarden for over a year, I hear this & my faith in it has been renewed. Gonna download this sometime, along with some of the others.

I gave up on these guys after Adore. I didn't like Adore before either but they still seem to be in a better musical place on that album

Zeitgeist was decent, the first half of it anyways. I still throw on Tarantula to get pumped

Nope, I loved Zeitgeist, minus Pomp & Circumstances obviously.

I loved these guys, but stopped really paying attention after Mellon Collie. I kind of do like this song, though...

i agree but I liked Adore, just not as much as their first 3. Perfect is still one of my favorite Pumpkin songs

This isn't bad but I don't like how his voice sounds on everything since Adore. Nothing really standout about the song.

One of the best things in my life would be for the original 4 to play together but I know that will never happen.

It's really sad that everyone is kind of ignoring this album so far...with the exception of Widow Wake My Mind it's pretty awesome. A Song for a Son, Astral Planes, Freak, Tom Tom, The Fellowship and Lightning Strikes are all pretty amazing, imo. It's just kind of sad that everyone blows the band off because Zeitgeist sucked so fucking bad and because Billy's such a douche, because live and on record, this band is in top shape at the moment.

new song sucks a dick

also adore is an excellent album, and even machina had its moments. SP died in 2001.

It just sounds like Billys heart isn't in it anymore. I think in his head, he's as passionate as ever, but deep down, he's already had his time to shine, but just doesn't know what to do with his life so he's keeping up the charade of SP

Admittedly, I was pretty underwhelmed by the Teargarden project initially...especially after hearing songs like Song for a Son and Widow Wake my Mind. But after hearing the 2nd EP, Billy actually sounds confident and revitalised, most notably on songs like The Fellowship and Tom Tom. And I have to say, Lightning Strikes is pretty damn good! The chorus especially is incredibly effective, very cool melodies throughout.

So yeah, personally I feel Billy has found this new found sense of freedom - granted, it lacks the urgency of Siamese Dream and the poignancy of Adore, but it seems that he's in a happier place right now. So instead of writing a typified mainstream rock album like Zeitgeist, he's now doing something that sounds far more salvageable.

"adore is an excellent album, and even machina had its moments. SP died in 2001"

I agree with this but with the albums reversed. Since Corgan did that damn zwan/thefutureembrace thing he has gone right downhill, SP are now not the band i used to know

They lost it with Adore. Billy strayed too far from his initial strengths, and now he cant tune into that frequency anymore.

I enjoyed it. Aside from the pretentious title and occasional flop ("Spangled"), Teargarden By Kaleidescope has been surprisingly good overall.

I don't know...

The problem is that everything we consider "good" from Corgan today doesn't reach nearly the quality of the stuff we would of considered good 16 years ago...

Everything has a shelf life. I don't think there are many (I can't think of one) instances where a musician past their prime has all of a sudden got as good as they were.

Yeah, i will say this; the songs i've heard from Teargarden are MUCH less bland than about 80% of Zeitgeist.

@Superduck0 There are a few, namely PJ Harvey, Nick Cave, Flaming Lips...but yeah, I know what you mean. To be honest, Teargarden doesn't even touch Siamese/Mellon Collie/Adore but there are definitely some good moments.

But yeah, these 'moments' won't even come close to to the solo in Geek USA, or the euphoric build up in Porcelina of the Vast Oceans or heartbreaking coda in For Martha...just great, great songs.

Here are Corgan's problems...

He's in love with his voice, and as such, he's been overdubbing it way too much and pushing it to the foreground ever since Machina.

He has no idea how to edit or let go of bad ideas.

Mellon Collie was the last album produced with the help of Alan Moulder.

He has melodically and lyrically run dry.

The "best of" of this album will be a at least a 4. We already have 2 killers songs - "Freak" and Lighting Strikes. There should be atleast a dozen more considering the gazzilion more songs coming this way.
