too bad they couldn't just give money to help people. they did it to avoid "tongue lashing" from bono, pretty sad
|
| |
Instead of helping out of good they're helping because Bono is fucking annoying. lol
|
| |
I love leaks
|
| |
What? Really? Since when does Bono have pull with the Italian government?
|
| |
Bono's gay, but damn, he's gangster.
|
| |
What? Really? Since when does Bono have pull with the Italian government?
ever since they thought it was a good idea to use him in a brochure
|
| |
^This, coupled with the fact that he pulls a lot of weight on this sort of topic for damn large amount of people around the world.
Also, interestingly, I read an article he wrote for a Sydney paper today and he acknowledges how annoying he can be.
|
| |
The Italian government is so fucked, trust me
|
| |
no one trusts you
|
| |
Frankly, this is hilarious
|
| |
Bono is clearly racist.
|
| |
they should
|
| |
Well guys, I need to post positive comments about Bono now. I don't want him "tongue lashing" me.
|
| |
"In 2009, the year in which it hosted a G8 summit in the earthquake-hit city of L'Aquila, Italy's
overseas development aid to sub-Saharan Africa fell by €238m"
he didn't actually increase the aid, he just considered maintaining it and in the end he did neither
edit this article because its incorrect
|
| |
error noted
|
| |
i wonder if bono is well read on aid or if he's just some douche trying to make himself feel better. surprisingly seems like the former
|
| |
Fuck Bono.
|
| |
90% of Berlusconi's appeal is "he's badass and I wanna get tanked with him", so it hurts his rep if a huge rockstar doesn't dig him.
|
| |
I wonder how long it will take Bono to realize that sending aid to Africa does absolutely nothing but perpetuate the problem.
|
| |
What perpetuates the problem is actually not poor people being allowed to survive and reproduce because of foreign aid, but rather the current global economic system of capitalism that exploits third world countries and keeps them in their place. Sure, aid won't solve the problem. But what will not sending aid do?
|
| |
No, it's not any of those things, it's the way the aid is distributed and handled.
|
| |
what is wrong with the way it is distributed?
|
| |
you mean by the african governments?
|
| |
lots of the aid is being stolen by corrupt officials/diverted to rebel groups and is hindering
economic development in general
its obviously not working
|
| |
yes that too is a problem
|
| |
Here, I found a decent article that covers some of the problems:
http://www.ctv.ca/CTVNews/World/20090602/africa_aid_090602/
and yeah porch touches on one of the problems as well
|
| |
thanks for the link
|
| |
no prob. It's an interesting read, and somewhat unsettling.
|
| |
interesting video too, though helping build an entrepreneurial culture is easier said than done
|
| |
Bono should buy a small African nation and become its president. That countries' economy will be based on exporting cries for help and redistributing received aid to other foreign nations.
|
| |
aid is the only thing keeping africa from falling apart dude. you can't just stop giving aid, the economy would go through a massive shock and fall apart. though you're right it does fund clientelism and patronage in certain cases, and how aid is handled is a major issue in its distrubition.
still though, the question is, does Bono know where aid should be going? or is this more an issue of trying to cover up the smell of his own shit.
