@TheAcademy: Fixed your issue with that random band you seem so sprung on.

To the other people, yes, the band is named Snog.

No problem. I was mostly just being sarcastic anyway. I know who the Scorpions are. They had that one big song in the 80s that everyone seems to still know today ('Winds of Change', I think). I deal with so many albums every week that I'm sure that's not the first band/album name I've messed up.

"They had that one big song in the 80s that everyone seems to still know today ('Winds of Change', I
think)."

"Rock You Like a Hurricane" was their biggest hit. "Winds of Change" was a big single as well, but it
came in the early nineties, and "Rock You Like a Hurricane" was still more popular, I believe. I'm not
gonna' hunt down the Billboard stats, but I'm pretty sure that's how it is.

Not to bust your balls or anything.

And no, there is no truth to the rumor that the new site addition is naked photos of all staff.

This idea was discussed, but there wasn't enough room on the page for our massive................... egos.

It's still in the works though. We just have to verify that a majority of the users have wide screen monitors before we can implement.

@FreePizza: You're not busting my balls. I don't know much about that band besides the ballad I mentioned. I figured that since I knew that one it had to be pretty big… and the part about it coming out in the 80s - well that was one big ass-umption ;)

I heard this through the grapevine, but there are some big plans to totally re-do the Sputnik genre system. As in making things a little more specific than just "indie" or "metal".

hmmm yeah ive heard about that before dunno where, think it was in the forums, but i think that can be too much of a mess, too many damn sub genders to handle, oh well its just my opinion

Willie

As much as I want a few more sub-genres, I'm not looking forward to them being implemented. People already feel the need to fill all three genre slots as it is - and what's up with everyone thinking that their favorite band is "progressive"? It's almost as bad as the people that use "alt & indie" as their main genre and then put "indie" and "alt rock" as the second and third ones….

Yeah it's in the forums. But no, management is really serious about the whole thing. I am thinking they might do something involving "tags" or along those lines.

Admittedly a few bands require more than one genre tag, but this could become a joke real quickly

there's death metal, and black metal, but no deathcore genre.

mind boggling

I felt the triple tagging of Alcest was necessary personally.

Regardless, nothing here looks feasable.

People need to use their sense and not fuck with the system. I think the tag idea is awesome, Last fm uses it and it works great. And blooz, I agree that deathcore needs a tag.

Nikkolae

yes but not all bands need them so why push it?

and more genre taggs mean a heck of alot more work for admins and mods, agree on the deathcore one though

If a band doesn't need tags, don't add them. Simple as that.

Nikkolae
March 23rd 2010
6959 Comments

yes but when people join sputnik and start adding bands they rarely have an idea of what genre a band truly is, i know it happend to me, so therefor all hell could break loose with more tags

bloc

Sure, labelling a particular band might be tricky, but it ain't rocket science. Besides, there are other users on the site who might have an idea of what that band should be. It's pretty much a community effort, but yes we are always going to get people who abuse it...
