Man dies at Korn concert

WSBTV.com reports that Atlanta Police say they have charged a man with the murder of Andrew Richardson — who died after being beaten at a KORN concert.

Police say they have arrested 24-year-old Michael Scott Axley and charged him with Richardson's murder.

Richardson and his friends were attending a concert for the band KORN at the Hi Fi Buys Amphitheater July 30 when Richardson and Axley were allegedly involved in an altercation.

"We just went out there to have a good night," one friend, Eddie Arellano, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "It was starting off fun. And then this whole thing turned into a nightmare."

According to Arellano and others at the concert, there was a group of rowdy men at the show.

"These guys were just way too drunk. They had too many fights," Arellano said.

Earlier in the evening, some of the rowdies tumbled down a hill, crashing into Richardson and his friends. There was a brief scuffle, according to Bernice Averil, who was in Richardson's group. A little later, the rowdies returned and one of them snatched Richardson's cap.

"When they took his hat he stood up and said 'We've already had a fight. I don't want to have any problems.'" Arellano said, describing the moments just before the punch. "The guy threw the hat back at him. And when he [Richardson] caught it, the guy hit him in the face and he [Richardson] hit the ground and hit the concrete with the back of his head. He just collapsed.

"His face was bloody. It was bad. It was horrible," said Arellano, who also was Richardson's roommate. The person who threw the punch and that person's friend ran off, Arellano said.

Richardson sustained a serious head injury and he died August 1.

Horrible news. There's always gotta be someone who tries to make a good time bad...I hope this guy gets what he deserves in jail-time...25-to-life.

That is insane, there needs to be something done about this. A mosh pit with a few bruises is fun, but death, I think its time someone stepped in.

i agree with SoH, but KoRn needs to take the responsibility and tone it down a bit. if they dont (example) it can get out of controln (as we have seen). The same thing happened at the Tool concert, but Maynard calmed it down before it got too out of hand

Holy shit, I thought it was just mosh pitting. I feel bad now for saying it was particially Andie's fault. That guy deserves to go to jail, what a prick.

Well that freak sure was off his leash. What a prick is right, that is just terrible news for the victim as well as the band. I also am wondering what they will say about it. I recall at Warped 05 when MCR had to stop in the middle of a song because the pit was getting out of hand and I feel as though more bands need to do that if the situation calls for it.

The problem isn't the mosh pit in this situation though -although pits can get quite rough at times.
Still, it's a terrible that it happened, I bet the guy really regrets it now and gets what he deserves.

pretty awful man. pits are kinda getting out of control. i can understand if people ignore the "if someone falls, pick em up" rule, people can get hurt easily, but people getting beaten to death? thats messed up

That's true, pits often get too rowdy and the band and even the security hardly step in to stop it. But I think a better solution would be to start turning away drunk ticket holders or even stop selling Alcohol in venues that big. Last gig I went to it was 2,000 capicity venue and there was a few drunk guys walking around pushing the crowd into the walls before the show had even began. That was just in a crowd of 2,000 people, imagine what could happen at 10,000 or 20,000 seat arenas. This Message Edited On 08.14.06

Thats outside after the show it sounds?

Very fucked up, securities job shouldnt end once people are away from the venue.

Yea I live about 45 minutes away from the place where that occured, so I've been hearing all about this on the local news stations. All the versions of the story I've heard are different though. Everything that I've heard says that Richardson's group were the instagators of the fight. That might not be entirely true, but I'm sure this version isn't either, seeing as every one interviewed was a member of Richardsons group. Either way the guy who killed him deserves whatever punishment he gets. This Message Edited On 08.14.06

I cannot say that reading this has made me want to ever listen to KoRn again...

But hell, that is bad, and the guys who did it should have to pay it.

It's not the band's fault at all.

It has nothing to do with moshing either, somebody killed somebody else, that's not moshing, that's assault.

I wish you kids actually went to shows and experienced the whole thing, rather than just throwing out rather idiotic statements.

I was really hoping I wouldn't have to read a follow up to the previous article of this nature; R.I.P. Somehow, I doubt a punch to the head and a falling collision with the floor would kill someone...

In all fairness, Axley didn't intend to kill him, and didn't severely beat him. It was moreso an accident.

Regardless, it's still a terrible situation and I hope Axley is put in jail for a long time. There's no way in hell he's getting twenty five to life, though.

See, at big gigs why can't people try and stop this kind of stuff? At a guns n roses gig i attended recently, Axl stopped mid song to tell these guys down the front to stop being so stupid and violent, thats the kind of thing we need to see more off.

Plus, all Korn fans are complete idiots anyway, adding to the problems of violence.

i was at a concert for a chinese band called Y A K S A (i used to live in china). it had a crowd of over 10,000 people and me being 12 at the time made the smart decision to go in the mosh pit, bloody fun, apart from the time when i tripped and someone kicked me in the head........

it sucks when people get killed when all they wanted to do was see a band they liked.......this murderer should burn in hell
