Frusciante Confirms Departure

2009-12-17 by jagride | 47 Comments
Guitarist John Frusciante has confirmed that he has left the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

In a statement on his website, Frusciante admitted that he quit a year ago: "Over the past 12 years I've changed as a person and artist. To do further work along the lines I did with the band would be to go against my own nature. There was no choice involved in this decision - I have to be what I am and have to do what I must. My love and gratitude
to you all."

Make more awesome solo records, John. Best of luck from me.

Good, he was largely responsible for the dross they've been producing since 2002. Now maybe Flea will start to write more of the music

I do agree that RHCP was really starting to become stale, so this probably is a good thing. Plus it's always good to get some new blood. Im not familiar of this Josh Klinghoffer guy, but his track record certainly seems to speak for itself.

Been thinking about this and more solo records seems like the right way to go right now.

this is the best thing for the band, as they were starting to weaken. Maybe Klinghoffer can resurect the funk, also John can make more solo stuff, which is awesome

Will Feral joke is old. I dunno whether or not I'm sad or excited about this...

Perhaps they'll get the funk back? I have a feeling Jogn will be back...

This kinda sucks, but as everyone has said, hopefully the funk will be brought back and the Peppers will be less stale. John's a great guy and he did the best for both parties. The new guitarist is really really good and will bring a new flavor to the group. Im excited to hear what is gonna happen.

Bring back the funk? Are you retarded? They tried doing that. We got 'tell me baby' and 'AIDS in a teacup'. What they need to do is fire Kiedis and become an instrumental band

I hope your joking because with just an album like Californication, he'll have enough money off record sales and radio airplay to keep him comfortable for the rest of his life.

Id also like to chime in and say how much of a dick John is. Why do I say that? Well for starters, the band bent over backwards for him since he returned in 98. He became more and more the primary songwriter, which in turn became less funk and more pop. Another thing was his refusal (and RHCP giving in) to playing ANYTHING off of One Hot Minute (with the exception of Pea), which sits nicely among the best albums by them. Talented he may be, but he really comes off as a priss. He must be happy that he has RHCP wrapped around his finger.

NNNNNOOOOOOO!!!!!! He added soooooo much to the band, it's a great loss for RHCP, but I know that they'll do fine without him.
