I think Mos Def's new one ought to be in the running, personally...
But man, I'm going to have trouble with this one...I've got 15 albums just in the running, and only two ('Daisy' and 'It Hates You') that I know are going to make it. 'Felt' was awesome, but so was 'Black Clouds'. I really enjoyed both '(M)orning' and '(A)fternoon', but 'Armistice' might be better than both, IMO. And then, of course, there's 'The Empyrian' and 'Hymn To The Immortal Wind', which should both make it if I listen to them a bit more. But what about 'Post-Nothing'? What about 'Mandala'? What about 'The Incident'? WHAT TO DO!?

I forgot, but how was it decided on who wrote the little sound-off thingy for the top ones? We just went though soundoffs that were already posted to the albums and picked the best one for each. For the albums without a good soundoff, we just asked a contributor that had rated the album highly. For the opening and closing we just asked two contributors that we thought could pull it off (and they're both staff now).

Yep, Converge, BTBAM, Mastodon, Brand New and fun. are my best guesses for what will end up in the top 5. Although Poison the Well and P.O.S. certainly deserve to be there in my opinion.

why does that constitute me as a downer? I'm a pretty big Brand New fan, so I'm happy about that. And as much as I like to say Converge is overrated, Axe to Fall is a pretty stellar record. I haven't really listened to much fun. and I'm not a big BTBAM fan, so maybe I'm down on those. I like Mastodon a lot (mainly Leviathan) and I like Crack the Skye, but I don't think it's top 5 or 10 material.
