Pitchfork got something right!
| |
I guess Kid A wasn't released in the nineties.
Feels like it was.
| |
Yes "The W" made it there is justice in the world.
| |
The fact that ( ) is so low kind of pissses me off, and that they still they sung it in Hopelandic which the band has shot down on numerous occasions.

Agree kind of with this list. Some albums I don't think deserved to be on here and some were left out that did
| |
Alot of great albums, but I don't agree with the order at all.
| |
I almost threw my computer across the room when I saw vampier weekend at number 51...pitchfork sucks
| |
I thought they'd put Picaresque and Talkie Walkie higher, surprised at their Ryan Adams and Go! Team picks, glad to see Califone get some love, but otherwise, Everything is In Its Right Place by p4k standards. And they got #1 and #2 spot on.
| |
where was ( ) on the list? i only looked at the top 20
| |
Surprise, surprise....
| |
where was ( ) on the list? i only looked at the top 20
#130something. Right before Queens Of The Stone Age :/.
| |
Cat Power, The New Pornographers, The Dismemberment Plan, The Clientele... I can accept this.
I thought they'd put Picaresque [...] higher
I didn't even see it on the list.
| |
#130something. Right before Queens Of The Stone Age :/.
what the fuck? fuck pitchfork
| |
Leviathan looked ridiculously out of place on that list.
| |
they have that other sigur ros album in the top 10 you guys are fucking morons you should know what to expect from p4k by now
| |
i am dull and very sarcastic.
| |
Pitchfork is stupid. They are so biased towards certain bads it isn't even funny. I mean I love Radiohead, they are my favorite band, but if anything sounds remotely like them they say "rip-of", give it a 2 out of 10 and call it a day.
2 for NIN The Fragile? No. Just no.
| |
( ) doesn't deserve to be higher, it sucks. List was pretty good overall, though since they put Mastodon on I though for sure they would have at least one Isis album, they love that band.
| |
Some good choices but also some questionable ones. Funeral is a great album but #2 of the whole decade?
| |
list was great in comparison to the shit a lot of other sites are going to put up
| |
() was fine where it was and I think Agaetis Byrjun is better. Needed a little more metal and a little less rap. Overall good list - I've already found a few albums I've missed this decade that are awesome. One being The Wrens - The Meadowlands which is amazing.
| |
completely agree yotimi
| |
Fuck pitchfork. Bunch of stuffy latte-sipping indie douchebags
| |
^WIN
| |
"Radiohead top Pitchfork List"
You don't say.
| |
That being said, Kid A probably is the best of the decade. So good choice I guess. I don't get all the hoopla over Funeral though, I think #2 might be a little bit high.
| |
Fuck pitchfork. Bunch of stuffy latte-sipping indie douchebags
Careful, you'll insult half of Sputnik right there.
| |
Pitchfork has such an obsession with debut albums, it is very odd
| |
What about the records that make you dance, Pitchfork? What about the records that make you dance?
| |
? are you serious?
| |
You seriously questioning it?
| |
hahaha nice puds
two spoon albums in the top 50 makes me very happay, although pitchfork's animal collective boner is readily apparent and a bit disturbing
| |
so is my animal collective boner
| |
Bunch of stuffy latte-sipping indie douchebags
low blow bro.
| |
I just had a quick glimpse at the list. The usual stuff. Predictable but not bad
| |
Agaetis Byrjun was released in 1999 wtf
| |
Agaetis Byrjun was released in 1999 wtf
I guess you can let them off for that if it didn't make a "Best of the 90's" list. If it was late-ish in the year then it's impact wouldn't necesserally be felt in time. Let's be honest, it wasn't until Radiohead started bumming them that anyone took any notice.
| |
I think it was released in North America in 2000, so they're probably basing it on that.
| |
Agaestis Byrjun was released in Iceland in 1999, but it was fully released in 2000. It's like the whole Bon Iver debate, which we won't get into. Speaking of Bon Iver, nice to see they are loving it more than that 8.1 in '07. Though I suspect alot of that has to do with blog hype and they don't want to look behind the curve... like they usual are.
| |
wtf
they gave i get wet by andrew wk a like 0.6 but then name it number 144?
wtf
| |
the list is a group effort. reviews are one person. Plus people can change their minds.
| |
News title made me lol. No major problems with the list minus the one metal album. I didn't expect jazz, but it would've been a nice surprise....
| |
Pretty much left out anything from post-hardcore... but hey Jay-Z's black album is there! Fuck pitchfork.
| |
outkast in top 20
lol
| |
their kid a review was ridiculous
| |
outkast in top 20
almost everything Stankonia and earlier is fucking awesome.
| |
Im kinda pleased with the top 10, actually.
| |
seriously, FUCK PITCHFORK is all i can say. probably only 10 to 20 of these deserve to be in the list and theres so many missing! plus the order is totally wrong ffs!!!!!!!
| |
I can agree with that.
| |
Thread needs more latte-sipping indie douchebags.
| |
i'll start sipping latte and listening to indie so i can help you out Streetlight.
| |
List was pretty damn good IMO
Pitchfork's reviews/blurbs may be hilariously pretentious but the list was solid; only problem is the lack of 2009, especially Bromst.
| |
Im more of a Cappuccino person myself, but i'll take what I can get.
| |
Leviathan looked ridiculously out of place on that list.
Ridiculous or just caught off guard? It's a fanstastic album that appeals to more than just metalheads.
| |
"Ridiculous or just caught off guard? It's a fanstastic album that appeals to more than just metalheads."
Indeed
And P4K has a 'thing' for 'sludge' metal(Isis, Mastodon, Kylesa, Baroness)
| |
Talk about biases hahaha.
| |
I wonder if Pitchfork even likes Mastodon and Isis, or if they just pulled them out of a hat (with a couple others) to be token metal bands as an attempt to gain credibility as something other than "latte-sipping indie douchebags". Wouldn't surprise me, given their obsession with image.
| |
the 0.6 Andrew W.K. then makes top 150 is so ridiculous

Its all about culture dude.
| |
hey! it's pitchfork, and they're being silly!
| |
Sputnik is just as incestuous and narrow minded as pitchfork
| |
There's a bunch of records on that list are pretty good but don't really belong on that list. I mean I like The Strokes and The White Stripes but I just can't see them as top 20 of the decade material. They also give Kanye three spots on the list even though he's an average-at-best lyricist who happens to produce some great beats. And, as usual, they basically ignored anything outside of the realm of ultra-hyped indie with the exception of a couple of albums that were clearly added to provide some diversity.
| |
There are maybe 20 albums that I feel belong on this list, the rest is just filler. Just my personal opinion, but pitchfork has a single digit IQ. Pleased about the #1 though :D
| |
pitchfork is great and can generally be trusted to give reliable opinions on stuff. don't say "FUCK PITCHFORK" because they didn't include your favorite album - believe it or not, music taste can be subjective.
| |
This list is ridiculous. How is Amnesiac on this list and Hail to the Thief isn't? How is ( ) lower than Songs for the Deaf? HOW DID VAMPIRE WEEKEND GET IN THE TOP 100? Also, I'm a huge Interpol and White Stripes fan, but how did they get albums in the top 20?
| |
you guys all act like your surprised that these albums are where they are on the list of course vampire weekend and daft punk and interpol and white stripes are going to be high on the list. and pitchfork's always made it clear they like that one sigur ros album a hell of a lot more than ( )
| |
i don't understand how this is different from any "best-of" list on sputnik, which just recycles the same generic metal/underground shit (most of the time) over and over again
| |
yeah, but if you look at what pitchfork regularly reviews and the ratings they assign to these reviews, this list shouldn't be a surprise
| |
pitchfork is an indie music website, focused on indie music - i don't think they really give a fuck about metal unless its of the "cerebral" type (i.e. mastodon, isis, whatever, i don't know shit about metal). and albums like the white stripes and the strokes are pretty influential in the realm of 21st century indie music
| |
I'm with Rudy on this one. The shitstorm following pitchfork is because a lot of the bands/albums they like are not popular on sputnik, just as a lot of the albums sputnik tends to like are not popular pretty much anywhere else. Even if we like both metal AND indie (and I guess hip hop kind of), our list would probably as predictable as pitchfork's if you've followed both sites for a few years. Circle Takes the Square, Kayo Dot, mewithoutYou, they're pretty much equivalent to stuff no one's heard of that Pitchfork hypes and their followers eat up. They got a lot of the right albums on here considering what they've reviewed favorably and how their tastes generally lie, but it's not like sputnik's all that unpredictable or original or anything
| |
People have their own taste and Pitchfork collectively has a taste that differs from your personal one - so, what of it? Leave them and their lattes be.
| |
i actually prefer frappucinos
| |
frappucinos are slightly less 1337.
| |
Personally, i didn't agree with their overinclusion of over-hyped generic indie rock bands, but their placement of Kid A, Moon & Antarctica, and a few others made me happy. Overall, a lot of good albums were included, but too many were left off.
| |
unsweetened green tea is a bit much
even for p4k
| |
This is just indie wank with a few left-field rap albums and one postmetal album for good measure.
fixed
| |
that being said....list is still solid
| |
Where was the post metal on the list? Mastodon was the only thing metal.
| |
I remember that The Blood Brothers' ...Burn, Piano Island, Burn received a high score from Pitchfork, and was included on their Best New Music section, yet that album was not included on this list; the overall lack of post-hardcore is really disheartening.
| |
Where was the post metal on the list? Mastodon was the only thing metal.
I think he is trying to say Mastodon is post metal.
| |
list needs more tuvan throat singing
| |
lol naw mastadon isnt post metal but reading all their metal reviews most of them besides mastadon/converge were postmetal
i didnt really read it..just skimmed it rather.
| |
They review metal pretty frequently. They just have a thing for more offbeat metal. They gave Sunn 0))) 'Best New Music' not too long ago.
| |
Sputnik is just as incestuous and narrow minded as pitchfork
win
| |
where the fuck is axe to fall
| |
Being released on October 20th?
| |
will sputnik be making a list similar to this one any time this year?
| |
nah they'll be making it in 2012
| |
plan is to do it early next year after the decade actually ends and after the 09 list gets its time
| |
don't tease me adam
| |
"This list is ridiculous. How is Amnesiac on this list and Hail to the Thief isn't? "
because HTTT sucks and amnesiac is one of their best records
????
