Anberlin Anthology

2009-09-18 by Observer EMERITUS | 17 Comments
Anberlin will be releasing Anberlin: The Anthology on November 17th, a compilation that will include all of the songs from the band's first three studio albums: Blueprints for the Black Market, Never Take Friendship Personally, and Cities.

The compilation is also rumored to carry bonuses for the band's long time fans, possibly even the band's recent cover of New Order's "True Faith" as well.

That's a huge record label for you.

Switchfoot did this too, no?

Might be a decent investment for people like me who have only heard their albums briefly streaming online and are a tad bit interested.

Switchfoot did this too, no?

It's pretty much the same story, isn't it? A slow increase in popularity over the course of three albums and then they "hit it big" with the fourth album.

i kinda thought they hit it big with their first album, at least it was advertised all over Purevolume back in the day

They both kept getting more popular, obviously, but Anberlin didn't get a #1 anything until the new Feel Good Drag. Somewhat similar story with Switchfoot and Meant to Live.

The Steve Wilson in me hates this. Cities was such an incredible album, and selling it in an anthology ruins some of its spark, I think. But they're a great band and I'm glad they're getting so successful. So power to them.

kind of a waste of time and I agree with intheface in the sense that it does take away from cities a little bit.

however it's sweet for people who got into them late and can't find the earlier discs (I know I had a hell of a time even when they came out)

It is good for people just getting into them, definitely. It is kind of a money play also though. T&N trying to get their last profits out of them, probably. I suppose any anthology takes away from the theme the artists were trying to get across with each particular album.

I really don't understand problems trying to find any of these albums. I've seen them at every Best Buy or Hasting's since Never Take Friendship Personal came out.

At least when this happened with Switchfoot, it was their stuff that was genuinely hard to find.

I have all 5 albums and a few homeless songs, so I probably won't be buying it, either. But, I am kind of curious about what those bonuses are..

the band stated that this is NOT their choice -- it is a tooth & nail decision that they had no part of it...that being said -- UGH to T&N -- while they did a great job with the first three cd's, they didn't get anberlin ANY airplay or anything -- now that anberlin's with universal and getting radio time and video time (on fuse at least) they want to cash in? that kind of irks me...but if it helps anberlin get even more popular i guess i'll survive...LOL!
