I legit screamed when I saw this. I'm one of the lucky ones to have seen Les Paul perform live at the Iridium Jazz Club in NYC. I was going to go again this summer but he was sick the night I was going to get tickets. The man is a legend.

I was lucky enough to see him last year when the rock and roll hall of fame gave him a lifetime achievement award. His mind and playing were still sharp although his fingers couldn't move as fast as his head anymore. He told a woman that if he was 15 years younger he would rock her world, and after he got the award he got emotional saying that he was very happy and honored, ending by saying that he was going to go home and cut his wrists... he was so funny the whole night.

I'm almost crying

scyther who the fuck cares if EVENTUALLY it would've been invented. Thats a really dumb comment. Micheal Jackson did not change the face of music like Les Paul did. He certainly didn't change it for the better. He gave us MTV. FUck.

MJ was just really, really good at being a pop star. Les Paul was a revolutionizer. He didn't just bring us the electric guitar, he helped influence a completely new style of playing.

What a stupid thing to say. He was alive, now he's dead, that's news. Of course it is. It's hardly like turning 94 automatically kills you.

MJ didn't give us MTV. Anyway I was just implying that this is no more important or less important than Michael's death, as both had a very similar impact on their respective music styles.

Um, the electric guitar was far from the most important thing he pioneered. How about multitrack recording which virtually every band has used since it's inception?

This guy was probably the most important person in the formation of contemporary music as we know it.

PanasonicYouth

what are you, fucking retarded? multitrack recording wouldn't mean shit if we didn't have the guitar.

It would have come around eventually. If it hadn't been invented by Les Paul, it would have been invented by some other jazz guitarist who wanted to sound better in the big band.

are people arguing about who invented what first? thats stupid. of course it would have been invented eventually. but he perfected it first and made it viable. so others took from him, and also created their own, yes. but it doesn't take away from his influence or the impact of his initial product
