A trend you can't sweat out

2006-07-04 by Damrod EMERITUS | 19 Comments
The internet mall amazon.com became the target of hackers manipulating the entries of several bands, displaying their hatred for said bands.

According to punknews.org, this already took place last week. The hackers altered the entries of several bands that are considered "emo" by many (which is false, just a sidenote). "Panic! At the disco" became "Panic! Here's the Drama School Pop Tarts", the album "A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out" became "A Trend You Can’t Sweat Out". "AFI" and their "Decemberunderground" also got a makeover: Da Emo Babys with the album "The Downfall of Punk". Third victim were the "All american rejects": Boy Band Rejects. This was noticed quite fast though and changed back.

Amazon denies the hacker attack though. Amazon spokesman Patty Smith: "I can asure you that we were not hacked. We have a special tool, with which people can add informations to our database. The person responsible for checking the entered changes made a mistake and accidently passed those changes through. As soon as it was noticed, all mistakes were made undone.

If only the "uber-cool 1337 hax0rz" knew what emo is...

Hahhahahahahah, good on them. Even though these bands aren't emo(maybe AFI have turned a touch to the mainstream emo side), it's still kinda funny to see what these guys did.

afi is ok. they are way better then the other two. how could you ever mistake aar for emo, they suck but that doesnt make them emo. i can see why they thought the other two though because they look emo, but they dont make emo music. this was pretty sweet though.

Actually, this was pretty pathetic. It's like writing "(name) is ghey" on a bathroom stall with a sharpie.

Well it would have been nice to go to one of the largest online malls, look up Decemberunderground and to find its named "The Downfall Of Punk." Even if it is pathetic. Geez I wish I would have thought of this. This Message Edited On 07.05.06

Have you ever noticed that you can't call anything on this site "emo" without someone telling you that it isn't emo? Therefore I have concluded emo doesn't exist. I would like to thank the person that did this because these bands don't even know what punk is.

what the f*** are you talking about. Emo does exist it's just that you haven't a clue as to what it sounds like or what it's about.

.......I think the genre that everyone mistakes for being emo is actually pop-punk. I don't understand why everyone associates these bands with emo. This Message Edited On 07.06.06

Some people here (not naming names) could put a little more thought into their posts....
www.sputnikmusic.com/emo or go to the Emo forum on the forum www.sputnikmusic.com/forums.php

Why do you insult genres of music that you know nothing about and obviously don't understand?

you openly admit that you don't know anything about emo, and you still insult it.

So the spokesman is saying she changed the names herself?

I'd like to see the hackers get half as famous as these guys. I respect all these bands. even if their not everyones favorites. and even if they play dirty little secret and move along too much.
