All the metal this week and then Tom Jones thrown in for good measure!

RadioSuicide
04.20.21

thecheatisnotdead
04.20.21
Hey, it's not unusual!

SandwichBubble
04.20.21
Alan Vega (of course), Dino Jr. (I guess), and Field Music (out of obligation).
Also, Sir Sly should probably be "alternative dance/R&B/rock" or something.

granitenotebook

nurture 👀

Project
04.20.21
can I suggest bolding the artist/album title and not bolding the genre/label descriptions? this format is much harder to scan quickly, IMO

(but thanks noctwing for all the great work)

Divaman
04.20.21
Catch up week for me.

SteakByrnes
04.20.21
can I suggest bolding the artist/album title and not bolding the genre/label descriptions? [2]

Dewinged
04.20.21
Jesus, so much to check. Altarage, Alfa Mist, Spectral Lore, Neptunian Max., Field Music, Paysage and Big Brave!

Dewinged
04.20.21
And yeah I'd [3] the bolding.

Get Low
04.21.21
Your formatting on these posts irks me, Nocte. I feel like you need to put more space between the albums.

Get Low
04.21.21
Made the above post before realizing that other people were offering suggestions too.

Ecnalzen
04.21.21
Oh my, def gonna checks some more Alfa Mist. Likin the pre release stuff off the new one

Dewinged
04.21.21
"I feel like you need to put more space between the albums."

The space between albums has been the same for years, go check past posts. But suggestion noted.

Bolding (4)

Celsius
04.21.21
Is that Paolo Nutini lmao?

Nocte
04.21.21
Bolding thing fixed under suggestion. Spacing is the same as it's been long time [2]. Irking Get Low aside, i'll keep it in mind for the next entry.

Remember when you guys didnt even have these to look at for weeks on end?

Dwap
04.21.21
Needs more metal

SowingSeason
04.21.21
I think you're starting to find out just what a thankless job this is, haha. Looks great, I think people are confusing spacing with the fact that the title is now above the artwork. Feel free to experiment with the layout as you are though, people bitching about it is just an additional perk. ;-)

Nocte
04.21.21
I'm glad I've got Dewi to share the workload with to be honest. I actually don't mind the process at all. I've just been tinkering with the format until I find that sweet spot, but hey, if it's not broke something something.

GhandhiLion
04.21.21
Needs less metal and rock

DoofDoof
04.21.21
I weep for 2021, nothing of note is coming out

Nocte
04.21.21
--Needs less metal and rock--

List is comprised from sources indiscriminate to genre pool. Genres may feature more heavily based on when they're released rather than who's building the lists. i.e. if it's a pop-rock heavy week you'll see more pop-rock. If Season of Mist and I, Voidhanger have multiple releases in a calender week you best be ready to get your m/ on.

Dewinged
04.21.21
We'll be more than happy to include releases you make us aware of if they are not the deepest bottom.of the obscure prog folk bin of your local record shop.

GhandhiLion
04.21.21
^stupid comment. Dig deeper

I wonder how much Tom Jones' pr firm payed for a feature.

GhandhiLion
04.21.21
@doof

Mort.
04.21.21
too much metal this week, we need to stop metal now.

GhandhiLion
04.21.21
Well your source selection is poor then lol

Dewinged
04.21.21
^stupid response

You missed your chance then, cheers Ghandhi.

Nocte
04.21.21
Hoping Ghandi is fishing for reactions on this, we inherited the source selection. Feel free to rep the unlisted shit.

Dewinged
04.21.21
I did it for a year+

Good times

DoofDoof
04.21.21
Year is ten times slower than normal - just look at the RYM chart....yikes

Feels like February in terms of releases so far but it's nearly May

Getting excited about the 10th best GSY!BE, the 9th best Mogwai, the 22nd best Nick Cave, the 4th best Antlers, etc

GhandhiLion
04.21.21
@doof^ it's slower than last year

"You missed your chance then"
It was selected by multiple users? I presumed it was based on media lists and label news.

GhandhiLion
04.21.21
Oh that "stupid comment" was @Doof btw

I just realised how bad it looks under dewinges comment.

Nocte
04.21.21
Kind of snarky tbh.
--It was selected by multiple users? --

The sources we use to compile these lists?

GhandhiLion
04.21.21
To reiterate - There is no such thing as a pop-rock heavy week. Only a pop rock heavy source list.

snarky perhaps :p

Nocte
04.21.21
You're gonna have to be more specific. We're not deep diving here - just pulling off the major players.

botb
04.21.21
Hey I appreciate you guys compiling these lists even if my favorite release from the date is not listed because I find other stuff to check out I would’ve otherwise missed

Dewinged
04.21.21
What I mean Ghandhi is that if you are aware of interesting stuff releasing let us know and we'll try to include it. We pull from different sources and we can't include everything, that's why I said the obscure stuff, even if it's amazing, it's gonna be ignored in favor of a more popular release, but we try to balance out without overdoing it.

RadioSuicide
04.21.21
my grandpa is releasing his terrorcore post rock hip hop mixtape this week if you could add that thanks

Project
04.21.21
ty noctwinged the formatting change makes this 1000x better

GhandhiLion
04.21.21
I don't mind that much that there isn't many obscure or interesting albums here. It's a genre representation thing. Even all the obscure albums that were included here are rock music. (I count 6)

Simply add more genre sources. For example any electronic leaning labels/blogs/whatever to the source pool. That's all :)

If you can't find any non rock from a semi-poplar artist then try searching this:
"April 23 2021" "album" site:bandcamp.com

Rudimentary Peni have a new album out on the 23rd.

GhandhiLion
04.21.21
Oh and here's two albums that I've personally been anticipating. But again, I don't mind if classical/ jazz/ experimental is never featured in this list. Highlight some electronic music, folk and hip hop :)

https://simongoff.bandcamp.com/album/vale
https://cuneiformrecords.bandcamp.com/album/numbers-maker

GhandhiLion
04.21.21
https://modeselektor.bandcamp.com/
https://djkhalab.bandcamp.com/album/mberra

Here I found some less obscure ones. First one is popular, and I predict the 2nd will be as big as some of the artists on here.

Dewinged
04.21.21
Thanks. I'll look into spacing a bit the albums next week and will try to balance out genres too.

SowingSeason
04.21.21
For everyone nit-picking, just remember where we came from:

And also remember that time I tried to weasel my way out of researching releases every week like this?

--my grandpa is releasing his terrorcore post rock hip hop mixtape this week if you could add that thanks--

Got it, we'll also be sure to put it in the database for you.

SlothcoreSam
04.22.21
If anyone wants some good female fronted indie punk out of Philly, check the new album by
Remember Sports - Like A Stone.
Out tomorrow

RadioSuicide
04.22.21
thanks Nocte, he's taking a break from drumming in his Insect Warfare cover band to tour it once venues open up again, so it's kind of a big deal. it would also be sweet if you guys could add his self-produced minimalist deathcore ep released earlier this year: meatspin.bandcamp.com/album/oldandinthewheyprotein

RedRightHand
04.23.21
Spectral lore and neptunian didn't pop on Spotify, I hate buying things without hearing, but oh well

dedex
04.23.21
