Crystal Lake's vocalist leaves camp

Ryo Kinoshita announced he has left Japanese metalcore crew Crystal Lake, which he fronted as vocalist since 2012, due to personal problems. Ryo's statement goes as follows:

"I have decided to leave Crystal Lake.

I sincerely apologize to all the fans and everyone involved for whom I have caused a great deal of trouble since the hiatus from September last year.

As previously mentioned in the hiatus announcement last year, I have an illness known as adjustment disorder, and I have decided that it will be extremely difficult for me to continue as a member of the band in the future.

It was certainly not an easy decision, but I believe I made the best choice by taking the time to reflect on myself.

I struggled for 10 years and continued to fight. I didn’t have many allies, and I relied on myself and the voices of the fans.

I have been suffering from adjustment disorder for about 5 years. Some days I can’t sleep, some days I can only sleep. Sometimes everything becomes pitch black and you can’t move like a corpse. There were many times when I couldn’t stop crying before a live show.

But I am proud of what Crystal Lake has achieved around the world and what have achieved with the help of our crew, staff and everyone.

Crystal Lake has been the number one live band in the world for the past decade, without a doubt.

Thank you very much to all the fans who supported me during the 10 years I was around."

Ryo

This really bums me out, Ryo was my favorite vocalist in the scene for a long time now. I really hope he gets better, he's a rad dude. Hopefully we can hear him again someday

He’s easily the best part of this band, so maybe he’ll do something cooler now

If he does have another project it will be studio only I expect. Maybe the odd guest appearance with other artists but touring is killing him and I wouldn't expect him to return to the stage any time soon.

The only thing that made Crystal Lake stand out. Gonna be really hard to recover from that.

They're doing vocalist auditions immediately post-announcement on FB, so they're continuing. Ryo was a huge part of their sound and had a really gigantic range without spamming tunnel throat, so it's massive shoes to fill vocally.

Damn. Hope he gets the help he needs.
Obviously imossible to replace him. He's a very special vocalist and even disregarding that, 99/100 times a band changes vocalists, they should change the name cause it's just not the same. Wishing them the best though. They're also crazy talented.

One of the best live bands in the world and one of the best vocalists in the scene. Seems like the right choice given his illness and I wish him the best but man they will have a hard time finding a worthy replacement. At least they still have their beast of a drummer though.

Not very familiar with the band itself but Ryo is such an immense vocalist. Really hope his name pops up on some more future features at least.

Unless your band is named "Norma Jean" and you just keep trucking. Still enough members were good enough to make it work, not sure I'd say the same about Crystal Lake. Definitely not bad, but I mainly think of the insane vocals when I'm choosing.

As long as the split is amicable can see Ryo still contributing guest vocals on some future Crystal Lake tracks once the new vocalist has had time to establish themself.

Massively disappointing. Dude was one of the best vocalists in the genre.
