I know the song's already been getting talked about on the album threads, but I figured I'd create a dedicated thread to discuss it :]

" The rapper shot back with the announcement and release date of the new record, shocking both the Twitter user and the music blogosphere at large."
No surprise there isn't artwork yet :/
| |
Ok llama
| |
FUCK YES HE BACK, not just back but off that DAMN shit
| |
"not just back but off that DAMN shit"
lol, that's exactly what excited me about the new song too
| |
This track was a masterpiece.
| |
the track is a lot of fun with Ken's usual sharp lyricism, but some of the vocal mixing was a bit off.
| |
that video concept is dope
| |
Sputnik Singles #14 when?
| |
Shit, I'd be down to do it if contribs can use that feature (I've used the blog feature before for interviews and such)
| |
Hated Damn so pleasantly surprised how dope this was
| |
it's ok. weak hook
| |
Easy 9, bring on the album!!
| |
Not feeling this at all
| |
This song is just addictive. So much lyrical meat to pick apart, over analyze, and study. Kendrick really hasn't missed a beat in those five years. Hyped.
| |
Sooooooo pumped for the new alb
| |
Loved it, and it has revitalized my excitement for a new Kendrick album
| |
don’t care anymore
| |
nice samplings and lyrics but his flow is terrible imo
| |
DAMN. was great for what it was, really looking forward to this
Also, Kendrick Lamar's been stealing off Steven Wilson for his videos, you never heard it from me
*woooshh*
*vanishes*

first 40 seconds is literally Remain In Light
| |
I have a feeling this will be one of the least impressive songs on this release.
| |
I don’t think it’s on the album
| |
Pretty busy song, I like it
| |
“I have a feeling this will be one of the least impressive songs on this release.”
Probably won’t be on the release. The Heart is typically an expression of his mindset before a release. That being said, an interpolation of the beat could still happen, as Heart pt. 4 had a snippet of the beat from FEAR as well as the high-pitched echoed vox from PRIDE. Maybe the beat from 5 will be on the album but I doubt it, probably more of a hint at the overall sound of the record. Maybe he’s saying this’ll be his “What’s Going On”.
| |
it's a'ight
| |
idc about the song but wtf is with OJ
| |
This is soooo good
| |
Seeing the people online claim this deserves a Pulitzer is already making me hate it.
| |
this is honestly trash
might've been a good song without Kendrick Lamar on it
| |
It's fine, people will be hype cuz its Kendrick but the heart has always been its own thing from his albums anyway. It's undeniably his style though.
| |
“might've been a good song without Kendrick Lamar on it “
Probably not lol
| |
not vibing with this
| |
I like the vibe a lot, his verses are ok
| |
I love the song and vid as a concept, together. Just as a track, as much as I appreciate the Gaye sample, his flow has sort of an awkward groove on top of the instrumental and doesn’t really try to fit with the rest of the music. I can’t help but wonder if more could have been done between the production and the vocals to make it gel better. Most people seem impressed enough though. Not up there with the best Kendrick tracks, but a welcome departure from a lot of what was going on on DAMN.
| |
absolutely incredible track
| |
Yeah, I think the disconnect is part of the point...even the way he breathes at a different tempo when the drums drop out - really cool track, looking forward to it not being on the album
| |
"his flow has sort of an awkward groove on top of the instrumental and doesn’t really try to fit with the rest of the music"
this is my only criticism and surprised this is the first time I've seen anyone on the internet mention it lol. tbf, in the past he has mixed this rapping style with more traditional flow so I'm hoping that will still be the case. I can't imagine performing this song live, how would you ever make sure you're rapping at the right pace??
| |
pretty weak track tbh. in any case its good he's off that DAMN shit and back on the jazz train.
| |
the track feels so direct lyrically, like Kendrick is really just speaking his mind and addressing his fans directly, rather than trying to portray characters or weave some kind of narrative, so I think this disconnect people are talking about actually suits the track well
| |
Excellent track. Production sounds amazing.
| |
The new album would have been better for this song's inclusion imo
