For the first time in a long time, they sound like they have some pep in their step, some gas in their ass, some spiff in their riff.

Didn't like the first single, but this one's really solid.

This might be the best song they've released since Fiction for me. Absolute banger

I'd say Meshuggah, Ulcerate, Insomnium, Be'Lakor... a LOT of bands are more/ just as consistent as DT lol

Nah DT has probably the best discog of them all

DT has one phenomenal album, a number of great albums, and just about as many discount bin melodeath albums

song definitely has a better energy than the previous single and most anything from the previous couple albums, but over the past three years it looks like nearly everyone save for Stanne and Brandstrom left the band and new members came in so not really surprised they're kicking off with some stronger sounding songs. This still doesn't compare to anything from Fiction, though

Fiction is like their 4th or 5th best album ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

"DT has one phenomenal album"

Two actually. Skydancer is just as good as Gallery.

wouldn't put it on the same level as The Gallery but it is definitely criminally underappreciated. Everyone compares the magnum opuses of the "big three" but when comparing their debuts, DT easily takes the cake

See, I used to think it wasn't as good as Gallery either, but the more I've listened to it, the more I've found it's just as strong imo. Plus the more you go down the melodeath rabbit hole like I have, the more you start to see all the stuff that's been influenced by that specific era of DT in general. Most people may not recognize it, but Skydancer is just as important and influential as Gallery is.

Hmm I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that one Davey. I haven't found another album that sounds like Skydancer except maybe ATG's first album and they were almost released at the same time

There's quite a bit more than you might realize! I think the more notable stuff influenced by early DT off the top of my head is stuff like Garden of Shadows, Gates of Ishtar and early Anata. There's also some great lesser-known stuff like early Night in Gales and early Fall of the Leafe (especially on their first album, which you might like if you haven't already heard) that has early DT influences. Hell, even Insomnium have been taking some influences from that era in their more recent albums, namely their latest and also Heart Like a Grave.

I know it may not seem like it, but I've truly found the influences are there.

I haven't heard Night in Gales or Fall of the Leafe so I won't say anything about them, but for the rest of them I don't really hear it. Then again I haven't heard every album from those bands so maybe I should check the rest of them out. If they really have some Skydancer infleunce to them then I should dig it a lot.

Sounds like DT. Idk, I think they need to innovate on their Damage Done/Character/Fiction sound, its stale af now even when performed competently like this song. Atoma was cool too ig

DT overall I'd say but if we were talking in the scope of music released since 2007, the year Be'lakor dropped their debut and each band has 5 LPs since then, then Be'lakor is monolithically better and there isn't even an argument to be had

There are sick riffs all over of breath and bone (belakor). Really enjoyed their latest Coherence too. Vessels felt all over the place, but it had some solid moments.
