It’s um... different. Toby’s voice definitely sounds different from past releases.
PS- thanks to whoever made this a way better article then what I had originally submitted

These guys played at the first show I ever went to...Emery + ABR + Underoath in 2009. Didn't care for them at the time, but I'll always remember "In Shallow Seas We Sail" as one of the first post-hardcore albums I ever heard
| |
Why am I getting Weezer vibes from this song?
| |
that was bad
| |
that was super weird but really good. I'm actually really intrigued now
| |
Where is DaveyBoy?
| |
Definitely a new sound for them but for some reason I like it a lot.
| |
I....don't love it. The end was abrupt and a little disappointing. YWNA took a number of listens to grow on me as well and it soon become nearly just as good as In Shallow Seas so hopefully this does the same.

These guys do an excellent podcast for those who didn't know
| |
I just realized that for years I thought Emery was the same thing as Emmure. Huh.
| |
Ugh, I missed these dudes. Solid song.
| |
The last minute is 100% classic emery. I’ve been digging Matt’s guitar work a lot on the past couple records. Not super digging the weird switch between the intro
and verses though, but still excited for the record to finally come out
| |
it was getting better toward the end and then... el fin. Feel like that was the issue I had with their last album, several songs that would build up toward the end of the track and then it just ends... example: Go Wrong Young Man, Salvatore Wryhta, Alone.
| |
their last record was a grower for sure, but there were some seriously great jams on it.
| |
Yay
| |
The first half of the song was good but where's the second half?
Weird to release a song in two halves..
| |
I really liked it. I love the bass and guitars in the song. Toby and Devin still sound absolutely amazing. Can’t wait for the record.
| |
I like this A LOT

"These guys played at the first show I ever went to...Emery + ABR + Underoath in 2009. "
Good god. Sounds like an amazing first concert. Lucky bastard
| |
Nah, this is just fantasy

| |
They just revealed the album artwork and people are freaking out... lol

| |
yeah the album cover is not very christian lol
| |
Lmao I was thinking the same
| |
so every christian band is now coming back non christian? lol @ the reactions
| |
I don't think Emery isn't Christian anymore, it's more like they just love stirring the pot. That album cover is going to spark a massive controversy in that community.
| |
I think they're still Christian (haven't listened to their podcast in a while tho), they just have some views that challenge a lot of evangelical thoughts right now. funny how Christians were so accepting of a project 86 album of a dude holding a knife with a giant wound in his back and will absolutely freak out at a nude woman on an Emery cover
| |
well it makes sense she would be nude given the name of the album
| |
nudity shouldn't be a problem for the christian community but the cover is pretty sexual and kinda occultic / ritualistic? idk, i agree they are just stirring the pot and messing with people's beliefs. it's a good way to promote their music and podcast i guess
