After several years of turmoil and personnel turnover, Irish tech/prog band Shattered Skies have regrouped with new vocalist Gerry Brown and new bassist Chris Borland—who join guitarist Ian Rockett and drummer Ross McMahon—to release a new song and video entitled "You Will Know My Name." The song will be on the band's upcoming sophomore LP, Muted Neon.

Oh this sounds cool. Can't really say I'm a fan of the djenty guitars in this song but the synths and vocals are nice touches. They should get a keyboard player in this band though, would be sad to see this band perform with such an obvious backing track

Wait, WTF? What happen that caused the internal turmoil within the band?

As for the song, well, Gerry is pretty good but not quite as good as the previous singer, but as a good knack for melody, and I'm loving the synths in the song. The melody from the synths/piano was something I found missing from their first LP that I really liked in Reanimation. Should make for some interesting songwriting.

As far as I know the band has always struggled to keep a stable lineup together. Dunno about the drama, just standard band turnover and shifting priorities and shit. I remember them having auditions for a vocalist soon after the first album came out, then they just dropped off the map. I'm glad they're back though, cos I really like their sound. It somewhat makes up for Chimp Spanner/Paul Ortiz having gone awol.

Thankfully the djenty guitars are applied with a light touch, just like on the first LP. The band seems as melody focused as before, with the guitars providing groove without aggression.

ramon.
