A Summer of Thou

2018-05-31 by dbizzles | 27 Comments
Thou, the sludge gods from New Orleans, have been very busy and fans finally have a timeline for what is to come. Keeping in line with the heavily experimental EP released earlier this month, The House Primordial, it would appear that the band is shaking things up big time, offering a further taste of new directions.

This morning, the band released Inconsolable, the second of three scheduled EP's leading up to their next full length album, Magus, which is to be released on August 31st. According to the band's newsletter, Inconsolable is, 'a collection of bleak acoustic and quieter songs.' The third EP, Rhea Sylvia, will be released on July 7th and is described in the newsletter as, 'an Alice In Chains worshipping, melodic grunge record... containing Thou versions of Matthew Thudium's solo material.'

The band also recently did a short interview on NPR's All Songs Considered where they previewed new tracks and talked about their upcoming schedule. That interview along with singles from all three EP's and the upcoming LP are streaming here:

So are they gonna tour or not?

Missed one of their "word of mouth shows" in Cleveland recently and wasn't too happy about it.

Everybody is calling the album Magus, and the preorder page calls it Magus, but the album cover itself says Magnus!

EDIT: this appears to have been fixed

ugh so the cover with two girls is just for the vinyl release, what a shame, it's better than the dumass religious artwork

Yeah, I don't much care for it. Pre-ordered it anyway. I much prefer the woodcut stuff.

i'm sorry, are y'all talking crap about the lame drawn covers? all the covers with girls rule, the "epic" drawn shit is gay

I have a lot of personal issues surrounding obsessive compulsiveness, neatness, and order, so naturally I'm pretty wildly biased towards all their artwork following a series of woodcuts with the same typography.

Also buying all these EPs + Magus is going to bankrupt me. Thankfully I can pre-order the entire series from Deathwish which makes the process easier.

Yeah, I pre-ordered Magus and House Primordial yesterday, but the other two EPs are going to have to wait. Hopefully I can still get the variants I want.
