Bummer. Couldn't get into Divisi for the life of me, but Conversation Piece and No Place are killer.
| |
Can’t say I’m surprised after Kurt left
| |
feels sudden
| |
They really were a lot like birds.
Swooped in, left a lot of mess and fucked off to the relief of everyone.
| |
Apparently they really struggled to get people to shows after Kurt left which sucks. No Place is a perfect album to me. RIP hard.
| |
not surprised in the slightest, sucks though
| |
Ugh these guys are (were) so good.
| |
No Place and Conversation Piece are two of my favorite records, I'm super bummed about this
| |
Thank God.
| |
rip only really dug conversation piece
| |
I adore their first three records but I can’t say I’m surprised after Kurt left.
| |
"Swooped in, left a lot of mess and fucked off to the relief of everyone." loooool.. really though, it's a bummer.
| |
DIVISI was so bad. It's surprising people even glanced at it on Sput.
| |
cuz Sput is known for it's l33t taste. but for real I hope Joe the drummer ends up doing some more great shit in the future he's very good.
| |
About time
| |
Band really shouldn’t have expected anything different after releasing such a garbage album tbh
| |
I like Divisi. Haven’t listened to their other stuff yet.
| |
was kurt travis in this band?... anyways, im excited to hear what he does next
| |
Kurt already had a ton of new projects lined up the week after he got kicked, dude's always on the grind. Eternity Forever didn't last too long but he and Thomas Erak are still releasing an LP as Pushover later this year and he has been working with Sergio Medina (Stolas, Sianvar) and Joe Arrington (Sianvar, drummer of ALLB) on Royal Coda, which released a single a few days ago and is releasing an LP next month. Besides that he still has a solo record coming up as well as some guest features on a few tracks.
ALLB (or should I say Michael Franzino) fucked up big time by kicking him/keeping him out of the loop with the new record/whatever the fuck happened back then.
| |
I stopped listening to this band after Kurt left tbh but that full length was real good
| |
I never liked this kind of music yet I dig the shit out of No Place, so pretty sad news
| |
Shouldn't have kicked Kurt out. They'll be fine though, they've each got like two side bands they're involved in.
| |
Kurt and Joe have a new band with Sergio from Stolas called Royal Coda that sounds promising. Joe and Mikey are in Sianvar too
| |
Never really got into these guys. Might have to give em another chance
| |
It’s upsetting they left on their most disappointing album, but the band had a lot of really talented individuals (especially Joe Arrington) that are still making music so this isn’t a huge loss.
| |
I guess now is the time to actually start listening to them...
| |
DIVISI was this band's best album and it's really sad to see them disband after such a fresh new direction for their sound.
| |
You really never share the majority's opinion, dontcha Snide
| |
I find it funny how they changed their sound to be more appealing to a wider audience, then got nobody interested in them after the vocalist change.
| |
@Sir: I share a couple majority opinions, like Jane Doe being the best Converge, but other than that my taste is a bit off kilter to the userbase
| |
your taste is shit
| |
"Your taste is shit"
Thank you Soy, I grew it myself
| |
I just hope they all create different projects, because they're all talented
| |
A Lot Like Turds amirite?
| |
"Kurt and Joe have a new band with Sergio from Stolas called Royal Coda that sounds promising. Joe and Mikey are in Sianvar too"
it's all one big incestuous orgy over there
| |
good riddance
| |
They were on borrowed time after Kurt left
| |
How about stating fact and dealing with the reality that they have always been shite?
| |
zak hates birds confirmed
| |
misread this as "A Lot of Bands Disband" and i was like "oh my gosh which ones"
| |
All of the bands that you love
| |
i'm not even sure why because "of" isn't even in the sentence
i should put my glasses on and brew more coffee
who are this band are they any good
| |
Nah
| |
oh ok that's fine then [:
| |
Listen to this and see for yourself

| |
Divisi wasn't that bad but this does feel kind of inevitable
No Place is legendary.
| |
man that was really obnoxiously written and performed, no thanks
| |
I thought they broke up a couple years ago and this was an old post getting bumped
| |
The Sound of Us is really catchy. Wasn’t stoked about Kurt leaving but could enjoy DIVISI for what it was
| |
DIVISI was a disappointment, but was still good. Sucks that they’re disbanding, but I’m not shocked. I had a feeling Joey was gonna leave anyway. I hope Cory has success with whatever his new projects will be and Franzino can go make shitty music on his own.
| |
I’m all for Cory focusing on Sufferer. Album came out of no where and is what ALLB should’ve been.
| |
divisi was ight but really boring. I'm excited for whatever Royal Coda and Pushover come up with.
| |
Kurt shouldn't have been dropped [30]
This was bound to happen after Kurt dropped [30]
Divisi is their worst record [30]
So I saw these guys a few months after Divisi dropped and they were playing a very tiny venue, not sold out and basically only played Divisi in full. Crowd was stagnant. And then as an encore they played Kurio Ledge and everyone went nuts. Go figure they decided to call it quits.
| |
Damn they really didn't play like anything before Divisi? That's a shame
| |
They really thought (or at least the lead guy did) it was a work of art I think
| |
They played Divisi in full (I mean it was the Divisi tour), but then closed with 3 old songs that everyone went nuts for. Really highlighted how much everyone liked their old stuff more.
| |
Probably for the best. That last album was not good.
| |
misread this as "A Lot of Bands Disband" and i was like "oh my gosh which ones" [2]
DIVISI does sucks though.
| |
Divisi has some nice tracks, but it's nothing special and easily the band's worst effort
| |
Thank God this happened. Band became terrible when Kurt left.
| |
I like DIVISI a lot, but this isn't surprising. I saw them when they were opening for Emarosa a few months ago their audience was like 20 strong, if that.
| |
Still put on a killer show though.
| |
Who sang Kurt's parts tho? Did Cory?
| |
Matt did most of the Kurt stuff if I recall correctly
| |
Ah that makes sense, how did he do?
| |
band had lots of potential. the spoken word part of their albums ruined it for me though.
| |
@Steak - he did really well actually, i was surprised
| |
That's good to hear, he had a nice voice after all. I hope all of the members don't stop making music
| |
There’s a lot of irrational, emotional outbursts on here.
Sputters prove themselves once again to be.....wait for it. A lot like birds :D
| |
Bird up
| |
I'm gluten free now Mom
| |
Legitimately sad about this. Of course I knew half the comments would be "BAND IS SHIT AFTER KURT LEFT, THIS DOESN'T SOUND LIKE SCHIZO POST-HARDCORE ANYMORE!!1" I'm bored of Kurt. I liked their new sound. I really, really liked DIVISI. It's so catchy the lyrics do a lot for me. It's a shame everyone was so illogically obsessed with the sound they used to play with a vocalist who's over-saturated the genre with 30 fucking projects that are half-assed.
New ALLB > Old ALLB. Sad day.
| |
"It's a shame everyone was so illogically obsessed with the sound they used to play with a vocalist who's over-saturated the genre with 30 fucking projects that are half-assed."
Literally all of Kurt's side projects are dope tho, and his new one is no exception. We get it, you have a rage hate boner for Kurt
| |
All of Kurt's projects are pretty awesome, it's not like he sticks to one genre either. From the more indie No Not Constant, to the kraut/prog O!The Joy and his solo stuff which is hard to pinpoint genre wise. The things he did in modern post hardcore were Five Minute Ride, Dance Gavin Dance, ALLB and Pushover so I'd hardly say he has oversaturated the genre. The dude even has a rap side project and tried r&b ish prog shit with Eternity Forever so if anything he's super versatile.
| |
Yeah, that comment makes no sense. Sorry for having preferences.
| |
We get it, we get it, you have Love Boners™ for Kurt
| |
Why did Kurt get kicked out of the band ?
| |
He left on his own, he wasn't kicked out per say. However, in the situation he was in, it was basically him being kicked out because the rest of the band made music without his knowledge
| |
The gist I got from it (Kurt hating aside) was that Kurt was annoyed the others' side projects. Annoyed that Michael kept posting Alone news to the ALLB FB page. Then when they showed him new ALLB stuff they were writing, he was still annoyed by Alone and thought it still sounded too much like that project.
"As I listened to each song, I became more and more sad and upset because each song he was showing me did not sound like ALLB at all."
He frames it as if Michael was ruining the band and he couldn't stop it. But hey, the rest of the members were fine. It sounds like the band wanted to evolve but couldn't be 100% up-front about it with Kurt because they knew how he'd react, and that's how he reacted. Maybe not completely fair to Kurt, but he would have left anyway if they more transparently changed their sound and cut Corey's screaming.
The vibe I got was that there was the band, and then there was Kurt. Not to discount the job of a vocalist, but the rest of them were out composing a new sound while he waited around to lay down vocals and then really didn't like how it was shaping up.
| |
Good. Last album was fucking awful sans the promo single.
| |
Their first two albums were fucking awful tho
| |
1st was ok second was the tits
| |
"Their first two albums were fucking awful tho"
So No Place was great? I agree :]
Conversation Piece is amazing tho
| |
i'd encourage ppl to read the story behind the departure - it's really interesting and both parties were v diplomatic and articulate
Kurt's statements: https://www.altpress.com/features/entry/former_a_lot_like_birds_vocalist_says_he_left_band_because_of_new_direction
Band's statements: https://killyourstereo.com/news/1082205/a-lot-like-birds-respond-to-kurt-traviss-statement
long story short - open communication is always key
| |
I read both statements when they came out, you can tell that both sides were hurting with his departure because they were all bros, especially Kurt and Cory
| |
I listened to every album they released and can't name a song I enjoyed.
| |
shhhh I completely forgot about Plan B
Michael's rebuttle is fair though.
"Cory, Ben, Matt, Joe and I have decided to grow together. Kurt has grown a different direction and that is what’s right for him. It is a simple and sad truth." It sounds like those guys had wanted to do something new, and Kurt just wanted to keep doing the same thing, over and over. Which is fair, and good for him for settling into a role he wanted to continue playing, but he shouldn't have expected the rest of the band to follow suit and keep going through the motions.
| |
I'm always gonna miss the chemistry that Kurt and Cory had, they sounded so good together
| |
